What's the verdict on Mio?

The water enhancer.

It seems like last time I avoided Crystal Light because of aspertame.  This stuff doesn't have aspertame - but sure it has some other fake sweetener.  I haven't found too much info on it - have you?

I know this is weird, but I'm not a fan of plain water and with a little nausea it makes it hard to drink so I like to flavor it a bit.  I'm guessing anything in moderation - but let's be realistic, I drink a lot of water now.

Re: What's the verdict on Mio?

  • According to wikipedia:

MiO products state they use no artificial flavors, but are artificially colored and sweetened concentrated syrups.[3] MiO Energy contains 60 milligrams of caffeine per serving. With the exception of Canadian varieties, all contain propylene glycol[4].

MiO contains almost no natural ingredients: Citric Acid, Propylene Glycol, Malic Acid, Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium (Sweetener), Potassium Citrate, Allura Red AC 40, Brilliant Blue FCF 1, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative). Acesulfame Potassium is an artificial sweetener that is potentially carcinogenic. Red 40 is banned in some European countries and is not recommended for children. Blue1 has been banned in a number of European countries.

  • Huh.  Guess I'll cut up some lemons instead.

  • I water down Izze, to give my water some flavor but not consume all the calories. I totally get what you say about water, when I drink plain water, I get the m/s.
  • I'm pretty sure that the 0 calorie Sobe Lifewater doesn't have any artificial ingredients at all and it comes in several flavors.

I also like Fuze, most of their flavors are around 15 calories, I believe there are no artificial ingredients in Fuze either.

Double check the labels to be sure though. Good luck.

  • I think I should stop reading wiki, but here's why I would not drink fuze:

Some consumers may choose Fuze products over other drinks because they wish to avoid high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which has been tentatively linked to obesity and diabetes; the alternative sweetener used in Fuze is crystalline fructose, which is chemically distinct from HFCS, although it is produced by allowing the fructose to crystallize "from a fructose-enriched corn syrup".[14] Since crystalline fructose is about 5.0% sweeter than high-fructose corn syrup, it adds fewer calories to a sweetened food or drink compared with table sugar or HFCS, resulting in Fuze products' lower calorie content than other bottled drinks.

There is no mention of possible side-effects on Fuze beverage containers. However, Gambooge (Garcinia Cambogia), which is one of the ingredients of Fuze Slenderize beverages, is suspected as toxic to the liver [15].

  • I put a small amount of Crystal light Pure in my water sometimes or the Lipton tea and honey, just enough to give a little flavor to my water.  It's probably still not the best, but better than some of the other options.
  • Can always try fruit in your water, lemons, oranges or even cucumber sliced up and in a gallon of water in your fridge can add a different flavor to it if that is what you are after.
  • I tried Mio because I was interested in a flavour drink sans aspartame, but ugh it was so gross. Still tasted like aspartame to me.

definitely would opt for real lemons.

eta: my friend makes this and it's good!
