Hi Ladies,
Sorry for being so slow to post my experience..been super busy with family visits since the arrival of our beautiful baby boy!
So I am very sad to report that I did attempt a VBAC, but failed after about 21 hrs:( I managed to go about 16 or so (i think) before i got an epidural, but my labour seemed to stall out at 7cm and i couldn't handle the "non productive" contractions anymore..I hoped a break from the pain would allow me to maybe get the rest of the way..not so:( so after waiting a few hours for something to happen..the doctor said she was sorry, but that she really didn't think the baby was able to come down into my pelvis to finish dilating, and that no matter how much longer we waited , it wouldn't change. we did try a bit of pitocin then, but it made the baby heart rate go crazy. so off we went for the section.
I feel really disappointed and i do wonder if we had waited a bit longer if anything would have changed. we did try a few different positions to try and open up my pelvis more, but it didn't seem to make a difference in the time I did them.
SO now I am wondering if we decide to go for a third baby..do any of you know if I can attempt another VBAC (in Alberta, Canada)..or is it pointless or risky-ier now with 2 sections for failing to progress? Just want to know what I would be facing if we decide to go for another..which would be at least a couple of years away.
Thanks for your advice!
Re: Failed VBAC :(
Congratulations on your baby! I had a failed VBAC as well, where I went natural but stalled at 9 and baby didn't move down anymore, coupled with his heartrate falling with my contractions.
I know how you are feeling (I think!). It to me was very disappointing, but I had a good recovery and the most precious gift in my arms.
My OB said while on the operating table I could try for a VBA2C next time, (we want 4 kids). The ACOG recommends them. But I am unsure of Canada's policy, I would talk with your current OB to see what they would be comfortable with. I have heard of women having successful VBA2C.
Congrats on your new baby boy! Sorry to hear that his birth was not what you wanted.
What was the reason for your first c-section? Was it also FTP? Even though it's a largely overused diagnosis, CPD is real. You might just be one of the unlucky ones. Or as my midwife likes to say...maybe you should have chosen a husband with a smaller head ; - ). But, don't think too much about next time. Try to enjoy your LO.
