Cold weather mamas

Do I need to buy boots for G this year? Snow pants or a snowsuit? I have a hat, coat and mittens. It's not like he'll probably be "hanging out" outside a lot, but we do live in Minnesota, and it does get darn cold here. What kind of gear do I need for a 1-year-old?

Re: Cold weather mamas

  • I have some Robeez boots for the times it's pretty cold, but I'm sure putting socks and shoes on there feet will be fine to keep their feet warm going in and out of the house.  If she is going to play in the snow, I am getting her the Robeez snow boots.  They have more to them than just the regular Robeez.

  • Lo has a fleece pram but I'll be getting her a regular parka and snow pants as well as a warm hat and gloves. She has a big brother so she'll definitely be out in the snow.
  • I am in MN too...With the snow we get I am getting real boots...I will probably go to once upon a child because she will not be playing in the snow much. We will take her sledding with thebig kids though.

  • We also have snow pants and a snowsuit.

  • Just remember with jackets you need to make sure they still fit into the carseat correctly. A lot of winter coats are too bulky.
  • I just ordered this snowsuit for DD. https://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=8772&vid=1&pid=914974012 It looks like I can put the little booties over her shoes, if we're playing in the snow.

We live in the city, though, so there won't be too much sledding, playing in the yard, etc. We might take a few snow trips to the park but it gets brutally cold so I wanted the warmest gear I could find.

We use a thick polar fleece jacket for the car. When twe are just going in and out.  I always have and extra blanket in the car for super cold days or emergencies.  The thick  winter jackets are for times when we are spending a significant time outdoors.

Just going to say this! Only use compressed materials on LO in the car seat [like fleece]. We got both kids those jackets with the fleece liners in them. So when we go to the car they have the fleece liner and the bulky jacket on, then we take the bulky jacket off when they get in the car seat. I have a remote starter so the car is warm.

We have a 2yr old too, so I know we will be outside playing on nicer days. DS is a fullon runner so we will get him real boots and he has those overall snow pants.
  • We have a little snowsuit, because with a big brother there is no chance of NOT being out in the snow all the time.  I also really like the little fleece lined jeans for little ones, just for the winter in general.  I feel like I bundle up his top half in a coat, hat, and mittens, but then his little legs are cold, so the fleece helps!
