I ate lunch today, expecting my 2 hr number to be in the 90's, max. I tested on my right hand at 2 hrs and got 153. Tried my left had, got 174. WTF????
I had 2 hot dogs - no bun, 5 Triscuits, and string cheese and ice water. Yes, I know not the best lunch but quick and carb/protein balanced.
About 30 minutes before I took my BG reading, I had a cup of coffee at work, with some powder creamer and splenda. I didn't even consider it might be a problem. Do you think that the minimal amount of carbs in the creamer or the caffeine itself could have spiked me that high?
I'm concerned because my lunch # yesterday was 130, while my limit is 120 and I see my OB on Thursday and I'd hate for something dumb to get me on meds I might not really need.
Sorry for rambling.

I didn't use lotion or anything like that, that I remember. I was at my desk and used an alcohol swab before I tested, like I usually do if I don't have time to run to the bathroom and wash my hands first. It's never been a problem before, but maybe. My number dropped to 134 in 20 minutes, so I'm just confused.

Thanks ladies!
I went through this for 20 weeks with my 1st pregnancy and was only medicated for my fasting #. Something random like this just seems to shake my confidence and makes me questions everything I do, like it's day 1 again.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better at lunch and I can move on.
Thanks again for responding!
It's not the caffeine. I only drink diet sodas now when I want a fix because anything like coffee (that isn't black) or of course regular soda just blows my numbers way out of the water.
And it's patterns they are looking for one. high number isn't going to get you on meds, if you tell them you think you know what it is, and don't do that again, or do it again just to see the results, they aren't going to throw you on meds for it.
I totally understand..I had one tiny, baby little brownie bite with my glass of milk last night for my evening snack, and my fasting # was 9-10 pts higher than it usually is..really?!? 2 or 3 bites made that big of a difference? It's frustrating, I know, but we gotta press on.

As a Type 1 diabetic I can tell you that you can test on all 10 fingers at the same time and get a different reading on each finger, although they should be somewhat close (within 20-30). They should have told you to just test once and go with that reading. Testing again will give you a different number and just freak you out. Relax and enjoy your protein! : )
