Registering to vote is a PITA

Just throwing it out there.  I'm the lazyass who never changed the address on her driver's license when she moved, therefore I'm not registered since that's where I've always registered.

Between being a working mom with weird hours that include Saturday, the DMV only accepting cash, checks, or Mastercard which I never have (my credit cards and debit card are Visa), and always having DS with me on my weekday off, it's the most inconvenient thing ever to get there.

So here I am at the last minute (you have to be registered a month in advance) looking for alternative ways to get registered.  The websites are all poorly formatted and confusing.  I'm calling locations where I can register and they have to put me on hold, check if there will be someone available at certain times of the day, and transferring me around in a confused, disorganized fashion.

Based on DH's travel schedule I may also find myself scrambling to discern if, where, and how I can vote early as well.  Which will be an additional PITA.

It just has me thinking about how our system works and how hard it is to vote, even in the best of circumstances.

I sent in the little postcard thingy. I have no idea if they are supposed to send me something back saying they got it and yes I can vote, but if so, I haven't gotten it. It would really suck to wait in line to vote, and then not even be registered.

I sent that in as well and they sent me back a voter registration card(which was really just a regular piece of paper with my name and district on it).

  • That stinks. Here you can update your address and request an absentee ballot online and they mail it back to you. It's pretty easy.

  • All we have to do here is print out a form on the state's website and mail it in. The town then sends a letter confirming and telling you where your voting location is. Sorry it's such a PITA for you, that's annoying.

  • We can register online.  Doesn't have to be tied in w/driver's license (though if/when you update your license you CAN do motor voter).
  • Can you go on the DMV website and update your addy? I did that when we moved and checked the box that I wanted to update my voter registration as well (same state) and it was nbd. License arrived in the mail then voter id card.

I did this too. But I moved towns in the same state not sure if that makes it easier.
  • I agree, it's confusing, too.  I *think* I'm registered but I have a (possibly irrational) fear that I'll be turned away on Election Day.

  • My parents are very serious about politics and voting so when I turned 18, they wouldn't let me go out with my friends until I registered to vote.

I'm still registered at their address, so I just vote at their voting station even though I live across town.  It's just easier than trying to figure out how to change my registration.

    So, yeah, I'm lazy too.
