How do you dress LO for daycare (3 months)?

How do/did you dress LO for daycare at this age? What have you found to be easiest? DS has just been wearing short sleeve onesies at home since its been hot. But I'm not sure how to dress LO for daycare. Also, I kind of wanted to dedicate a certain pile of clothing just for daycare since they all need to be labeled so I wanted to know what to shop for.

Re: How do you dress LO for daycare (3 months)?

  • At three months, DS was mostly still in sleepers or the "play" clothes, which were one piece outfits. The main difference was the sleepers had feet and the play clothes didn't, so he'd need socks.

Even now that he's 1.5 yrs+, I still like the one-piece outfits. DS is a tall, skinny thing, so pants that fit him length-wise tend to fall off his butt. The one-piece outfits keep us from having to deal with that but still let him wear clothes that fit him well otherwise.

  • My LO is 12 weeks and has been in DC for 4 weeks. He dresses in a onesie and pants to DC...with tight socks. His classroom tends to be cold IMO, so I dress him warmer.

I label everything with little slips of paper and tape so I don't have to use permanent marker on his clothes. It is more time consuming, but then his clothes are not bleeding with ink in the wash. At first I used a red sharpie and he had ink stains on his skin!! Angry

  • At 3 months, I was just putting DD in a onesie but that's when it was hot. You probably want to ask what temp they keep the infant room at to help you make your decision. Also, you could put pants and socks or a sleeper in her bag in case they feel she is cold during the day. Also, it depends on how cold/hot natured your child is. Mine has always been hot natured so a onesie was fine for her most of the time. You know your baby better than anyone so pay attention to the temp in the room and dress her how you think she will be most comfortable.

  • We send our daughter in a onesie, pants and socks, I dress her to be comfy. If she gets warm they will remove socks and pants and if she gets cold her blanket is in her bag.

  • onesie w/ pants or those one piece sleep n play things w/ the snaps up the inside of the legs.  But by 6 months I'd say my kids were mostly in pants & onesies w/ socks.

you didn't ask but i highly recommend those Trumpette socks- cuteness aside, they stayed on way better than all the other baby socks I tried.

  • While DS was under a year, I loved the little cotton play outfits from Carter's- they usually come as a set of cotton pants with a LS onesie and a SS onesie.  Depending on the temperature, I'd send him in that and a pair of socks.  I felt like he was "dressed" as oppossed to sending him in the zipped-up sleepers, but they were still nice and soft for napping in during the day.  They were also very cheap (can get sets at Costco, Marshalls, TJ Maxx for about $8).  We had a few neutral-colored cotton hoodies to add on top when it was really cold.

  • I worked in the infant room and I'd say l really appreciate the one piece footie things. Zipper kind even better! This way I wouldn't have to keep replacing socks that came off and babys feet weren't near as cold. The pants with onesies are fine, but like pp said, tight socks are helpful. It may only take a little bit to notice a missing sick but I hated when they had cold toes! I'd always try to warm their feet up in my hands before I put them back on lol.

The only thing I HATED for them to wear was like denim and button up collared shirts. It's just not comfortable for a baby to lay around in all day.

  • You might want to check if the daycare enforces labeling all clothing.  I read my daycare's handbook and it said all clothing should be labeled, but they don't actually do that (they are stricter about labeling the bottles).  Baby's extra clothes are put in their specific cubby and the dirty clothes are also put in a sack and labeled with their name.  I was glad I didn't actually have to label the clothes in any way since I am borrowing other people's that they have made markings on the tag or other people may borrow mine.
  • Onesies, long sleeve if the room is chilly and cotton elastic waist pants.  I also love one piece rompers if the legs are snapped.
  • DS2 usually wears either a onesie or short sleeve romper. They keep a footed sleeper to dress him in for naps.

  • We do a lot of sleep and play sleepers even now at 9 months.  I do sometimes send her in a dress and leggings with a long sleeve onsie under the dress, but I try to make sure it's all soft and cotton since it's what she is sleeping in while she's there.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

Have you tried a company like Mabel's Labels? They make little personalized stickers for clothes that stay on in the wash. My DCP recommended them.

I sent DD in the same clothes she'd wear at home, little dresses and rompers, or sometimes two piece outfits consisting of a top with leggings.

  • We started daycare in the winter and she wore a onesie and PJs most of the time. If she'd started in a warmer time of year, I probably would have put her in a onesie and knit pants and left 2 warmer PJs there in case she got chilled.
