Penile adhesion

At our son's 6 month appointment, the doctor examined him and said he has a penile adhesion and if it doesn't get better he will have to be re-circumsized.  We have to pop his little penis out every couple of diaper changes.  The tip of his penis is all red.  Our son is also at the 95% on the weight chart and the doctor said when he slims up from crawling/walking that will also help.  Does anyone else's son have this problem?

Re: Penile adhesion

  • Just had our 6 month yesterday and DS had a slight penile adhesion. Doc pulled it apart and said that we need to make sure that we are pulling the skin back further and putting vaseline on it. She also said to make sure that we him soak in the tub (I am guilty of speed bathing him!). She said the same thing about once he is more mobile that it will help itself. Make sure that when you pull the skin back during diaper change that you can see the red ring.

  • Our pedi noticed this at our 4 mo. visit and we have to pull his skin back every night.  The instructions they gave us after his circumcision weren't very clear, and I didn't realize I had to keep pulling the skin back even after the circumcision had healed.  I just do it before his night diaper or in the bathtub.

  • I noticed this as well and have done what you ladies mentioned.  I check on it and pull the skin during diaper changes, when I see it's red I put on A&D ointment.

  • We've always just pulled back the skin after the circumcision healed because we like to clean it every diaper change with a wipe. I also didn't want the skin to heal back and have to get recircumcised.

Same here. I pulled it back every day (per the dr's instructions)  for a week until it finally separated. It was all red for a few days so I put neosporin on it until it cleared up. Now I make sure at every diaper change I pull the skin back and at least once a day put some Vaseline on it.

  • My Pediatrician suggested at 6 months that we have my son re-circumcised.  We've been waiting on the urologist to call us this week to schedule a consultation.  In the mean time I saw my OBGYN (I'm pregnant again :) ) and told her that my son needed to be re-circumcised, she asked to see his penis because she had done it originally.

She said he didn't need surgery, just needed to have the foreskin pulled back.  She pulled it all the back (its probably been adhered for over a year) and of course my son screamed his head off, but I guess we don't need surgery now.

I'm making an appointment with my pediatrician tomorrow so she can look at and make sure it doesn't get infected.  I've been putting lidocaine on it and also Vaseline.  My poor little man is 16 months old and I hope this heals quickly, because he is in SO much pain everytime we change his diaper. :(
