washing clothes

Is anyone washing LO's clothes with their own yet?  I still do separate washes, just wondering if it's still necessary.  I use different detergent for ours vs. hers, I guess that may be a factor in combining them anytime soon.

Re: washing clothes

  • I have washed ours together since the beginning.  Well, I take that back I don't wash them all together anymore (because they make enough laundry for a full load) but I do wash everything in the same way.  I use regular Tide and the blue Downy fabric softener.  Unless your baby has sensitive skin you should be totally fine washing all the clothes together the same way.  If you using the expensive Dreft and don't want to use a regular scented detergent, try the free and clear kind of any brand.  Wayyyyy cheaper. :)

  • I still wash separately, but that's because DH comes home with lord knows what on his clothes. He works on the C-130, and his clothes are exposed to jet fuel, aircraft sealant, and a whole host of other crazy crap. I just don't feel comfortable putting DDs clothes in with all that stuff. If DH had a more conventional job, then I would probably combine, but like a PP mentioned, DDs clothes typically make up their own full load anyways.

We usually wash seperate but only because of CDing.. Once her diapers are rinsed, we throw her clothes in and do the wash.  The diaper load + her clothes are enough for one good sized load.

LO always has clean and neat clothes.  Me and DH? I am severely behind in our laundry load :'(

  • I still wash separately only b/c we have our hamper of dirty clothes, and he has his... just makes it easier when his is full, I wash it... when ours is full, I wash it... I use the same detergent and what not, so in actuality, I could mix them... but this way doesn't bother me... and its how I will continue to do it...

  • I've mixed from the beginning.  With DS I mixed too, but switched us all to a "free and clear" detergent, but I didn't even do that this time... we are all using Tide and Downy.
  • Your not supposed to use fabric softener on babies clothing so I do them separate, I still do my 2 year olds separate from ours.

This is not true, fabric softener makes the sleepwear not flame retardant any longer!

  • I have never washed his clothes separately. His lights go with our lights, his darks with our darks. Bibs and burp cloths are washed with towels since I wash those all in hot water. This way I only do 3 loads of laundry a week instead of 6. We use one of those gentle/free clear or whatever type detergents on all loads and he has never had an issue with his skin being irritated.

  • I still do mine separately. I have a system.  Since they started eating solids they get food on EVERYTHING they are wearing.  They have to be changed after every meal (they eat solids 2x a day).  Anyhoo...when I get up in the morning I put my washing machine on the soak cycle and put in a scoop of the powdered Oxyclean stuff (which is a total miracle product, btw).  All day as they dirty clothes, bibs, blankets, washcloths, towels, etc. I just toss them in the machine to soak in the Oxyclean.  After they get their bath and go to bed I just turn on the machine and wash it all.  None of their clothes are stained and I've never had to scrub a stain.

I only have to do our laundry one day a week, so I think I'll keep their laundry separate for quite a while to come.  At least until they stop dirtying up 3-4 outfits and 15-20 bibs a day.

Way to still fail at minding your own business.  Lord...

I'm just trying to post here and mind my business.  I'm sure everyone would appreciate if all you June moms would do the same.

Besides, it doesn't matter what I do.  If I make a username that doesn't make it blatantly obvious who I am I get called out and if I do make it obvious I get called out for that, too.

your babies are only 4 1/2 months old, why on earth are they eating so much solid food that they're dirtying so many clothes? They shouldn't be eating purees for another 6 weeks. moty!

Our pedi told us to start rice cereal and veggie purees at 4 months.  As I said, they eat solids 2x a day. We also sometimes have to change clothes because of excessive drool or spit up...or diaper blowouts.  Bibs also have to be changed often because they are soaked with drool.  Is it REALLY that hard to believe 2 babies would wear 3-4 outfits and 15-20 bibs a day, or is it that you just wanted to come over here and keep bashing me?

Given your intense opinions on all things parenting related, it is just surprising that you're feeding them solids already.  And I've been reading the May board since well, May, when I had my baby.

Meh, I've made it no secret that becoming a mother was a very eye opening experience in terms of my "intense opinions."  I've eaten a LOT of crow in the last few months.  You know that.

The pedi said they were ready, so they were ready.  I think she was right.  They took to eating really well and love it.

  • DD's also make a separate full load, so I just wash them by themselves.

I also wash her CDs separately since they require different detergent.
