October 2012 Moms

Looks like I'm headed for an induction tomorrow :(

So, had my normal weekly appt today.  I mentioned to my doc that baby's movement had decreased and she wanted to do some tests to be on the safe side.

So I had an NST, results from that were pretty good.  But his heart rate didn't go up as much as she would like whenever he moved.  And he had several random dips in heart rate that she was concerned about.

So, then I had an u/s to check fluid levels.  Well, a "normal" level at this stage would be 8-12cm of fluid.  My measurement was a 4.2.  She said a "low" level at this point would be 5.5 and anything below that is bad.  The tech took her measurements and got the 4.2.  and then my doc saw the low number and didn't like it, so she did a 2nd set of measurements herself just to be sure.  Then they looked at my placenta and said it has deteriorated too much for being 38 weeks. She described it by saying that my placenta basically looks like it's 42 weeks old.

So, my dr. of course recommends getting baby out.  and as much as I did NOT want an induction, I also do NOT want to take the risk of keeping baby inside and have the worst happen to him b/c I was being stubborn.   DH and I have been discussing it all afternoon, and decided I would rather take the risk of induction and possible c-section and have a healthy baby than face the risks of keeping him in.

So I go in tomorrow at 6 a.m.

Wish me luck!  Hopefully good news will come tomorrow!

  • Good luck tomorrow!  I know it's hard when it's not what you planned but like you said, better to go with the safest way possible for the baby.

  • I am passionately against induction unless medically necessary. That said it sounds like in your situation there is a true medical need and I definitely think you're making the right decision, whatever my opinion is worth. You'll be in my thoughts.

  • I have such a similar story.  I had a NST last week and today at my weekly appointment because I told the doc of the babies decreased movement.  Everything from the NST looked fine today and last week, but she called me after my appointment today and said she scheduled an ultrasound for me on Thursday.  Nurse told me she scheduled the ultrasound because she wanted to check growth and fluids.

It's better to be safe, you and your baby will be just fine.  Good luck tomorrow.

Ditto - inductions are not my cup of tea, but in situations like this I am glad we have the option! GL and you will do great!

Ladies, I am usually right there with you.  I will admit I judge people when I think their inductions aren't necessary.  But like you said, in this case, I feel like it is what is best for my son and that is all that matters in the end!

thanks for your support, it honestly does mean a lot!
