Interview at 33 Weeks Pregnant?

Hi ladies,

I am currently a (32 week pregnant) SAHM, but was recruited, have had several phone interviews, and now they want me to come to the office for a face-to-face. This job would make more than my husband makes, so he said he'd be happy to be a SAHD while I work.

Have any of you interviewed while pregnant? Gotten the job? Do you have any advice, or did you just go about the interview as normal? I know I want to be very open with them about it and reassure them that I'm willing to work up to baby's birth and come back 6-8wks after, but not quite sure how to approach it......thank you.

  • I haven't been in your position, but since it will be very obvious you're pregnant, and you're going to need to go out on leave soon, I would be very upfront with them and let them know your due date, when you plan to go out, and when you plan to return.  I think if you go into it with a well-thought out plan, it shows professionalism and will give them confidence that you'll be coming back to the job.

Does your job require a training period?  Maybe with the time it takes to onboard, you could do training before you leave, and then start with the actual job responsibilities when you get back?

  • Don't say anything along the lines of "we'll see how it goes" because the first thing the employer will think of is the possibility you will not come back. You can say things like "once the doctor clears me to return."
