Moms of 2/3 what do you drive?

We will be in the process of getting something bigger soon. My DS and DD both have Britax car seats which are very big....one a high back 5 point harness booster and a Boulevard. There is no way of getting another car seat in the back of my Camry at this point. No offense, but I will not drive a minivan and my DH doesntnlike them either. What are you driving that you can comfortably fit 3 car seats in that's not a minivan or Suburban? Just wanted to see what options are out there.....and if it's even possible to get 3 large car seats in one seat. Thanks!!

  • I drive a Ford Edge and can fit 1 booster seat, 1 forward facing car seat and the infant seat - Its a bit cramped but it works.... If we need more space we are looking at purchasing the new Ford Explorer, it has the 3rd row seating! We will see how my Edge works out though... DH drives an f150 and fits all car seats easily!

  • I drive a Toyota Highlander with a third row seat, and I love it.  However, this baby will be #2 so we aren't feeling quite the space crunch.

I have a friend with a Ford Explorer and she has 2 boosters and a carseat in hers.

  • I drive the new Explorer. Has a 3rd row seat as well.

  • We bought a Suburban after the birth of my first child because we knew we wanted more.  It took a LOT longer then we planned, but we're finally expecting #2.  :)

I am STILL in love with my Suburban. Our 2nd row is 2 captains chairs instead of a bench seat, which makes it easy for my 5 yr old to sit in the 3rd row where he loves and get in and out easily.

  • I drive a Toyata RAV4 and it fits a rear-facing convertible and an infant seat just fine but there's no room for a third carseat.
  • 2011 Nissan Rogue. Love it. I won't give it up, 2 kids will fit great back there & still leave good trunk space.

  • I have a Toyota Prius. I LOVE my car.... but I know that as soon as #3 is on the way in a year or two that we will ned to get something bigger.

  • there will be 3 kids when this LO arrives, so needless to say 3carseats were not gonna fit in our old car! We debated whether or not to get a van or an suv w/ the 3rd row. After asking my friends (and my brother who all have one) about the SUV 3rd row seat option, they all said if they could go back they would just get a van bc its a pain to get in and out of the 3rd row (espically if you are in our situation and would literally HAVE to get to the 3rd row to either put the baby carseat in the base, or help buckle/unbuckle a toddler). We ended up getting a Dodge Grand Caravan SXE. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! It has the stow and go for extra storage and the fold away seats, plus the fold down DVD players which are great if you live out in the country like us and the kids are never in the car for less than 1/2hr to an hour at a time. It gets really great gas milage too. I think all cars are a very personal decision, whats great for me and my family, might not be great for you bc it all depends on what/how you are going to use it.

  • When our Camry was finally in "hospice" in May, we looked at the Highlander b/c at 24, I am/was not ready to drive a friggin' minivan! We thought the Highlander would be okay because they do have better access to the third row now, but when we looked at the storage capacity with the third row it was obviously not going to work. We went with the Sienna (before we even knew I was pregnant) because we knew we needed the trunk space for trips to grandma's/camping/whatever. But, like PP said, what works for us may not work for you. I know you said you refused to drive a minivan, but I just can't see us fitting in anything else. I imagine when we get to four or five kids total that we'll just go for the ridiculously huge touring van deal. Yay! So, I guess to us a minivan is really small and unobtrusive. ;-)

  • FTM but I have a daycare...

I drive a dodge journey with the 3rd row split seat and I love it. I can get 3 carseats across the middle row and in the back, I put the booster and have the preschooler climb in and buckle herself. Also, with the split seat, I can still fit the stroller and other gear...

  • Last month we bought a Honda Pilot.  We have an 11 yr boy, 10 yr girl and then one on the way.  We looked and looked and were overall not satisfied with the leg room in the 3rd row seats.  Finally we test drove the Pilot and loved it.  As an adult, I could sit comfortably in the 3rd row.  Since our 2 older ones are so much older and bigger, we didn't want to cram them in the back.  I don't think it would be good to have a car seat back there though.  Since my kids can easily maneuver themselves, it works great.

We have the Highlander too (Love It!).  I can get DS's Britax, a friends Radian, and an infant seat in the back seat.  Don't know about two Britax and an infant though.  I like the option of having the 3rd row, but if that's up then there is no trunk and we have to strap the stroller to the roof.

  • I swore up and down I would never drive a mini van.  I was offended that my husband would even suggest such a thing.....but......we just bought a Toyota Sienna and I am in love.  I hate to admit it, but I freaking love that thing.

The sliding doors are key and you just don't get that with an SUV.  If you told me 2 years ago that I would be trading in my Matrix for a mini van I would have laughed in your face.  I wouldn't give up my mini van for anything! ;)
