My motherly instinct works!! LONG

Subject: my motherly instinct works long

My baby has been going through these two hour scream fits from 7 until 9or later for about two weeks. Every. Night. So, it finally occurs to me he isn't sleeping enough or restfully enough during the day and I'm putting him down too late. Last night, he cried from 7 until 8 and then slept from 8 until 1:30. So tonight I was determined to get him to bed by 6pm. At 5we gave him a bath, I fed him and he was asleep by 5:30.

He slept until 7 and then I fed him again. Only he wouldn't fall back asleep. I was rocking him, swaddled him, everything. He wasn't fussing at all, not even a little, he just wouldn't sleep. 9pm came around he was still up. DH could not understand why I was frustrated. He said "he's being quiet!" I'm like "yes, but he is going to be overtired and I don't want him to scream from 10 until midnight!" DH thought I was crazy.

Literally, two seconds later the kid starts wailing. He continues to wail for an hour! DH looks at me and says "man, you called it on the over tired thing..."

And that's the first time I really had felt like my motherly instinct was dead on and I knew what my baby wanted/needed!! As much as I hated that he was screaming, I was happy that I knew what I was talking about!!

Also, DH cleared his throat 3 times from 7 to 9 and woke the baby when I would get him to finally sleep for a second. Then after the scream fest I finally got him to start to drift off, DH walks up the steps where I was and hiccups really loud...waking the baby! I know he couldn't help it an felt bad, but holy crap I was so irritated!!! Lol

  • Good job mama!  Yes  I know it sucks to hear LO scream, but I can totally empathize with feeling good about "knowing your baby" and figuring something out as a FTM!

And regarding your DH's bodily noises... I have nearly lost it on DH (correction - HAVE lost it) when he burps/hiccups/chomps on chips/clears throat/breathes/whatever too loud near the baby if he's asleep.  Sometimes I don't care if it's not his fault because I feel like he could easily either made his "sounds" quieter or moved away more quickly so as not to wake up the baby LOL.

  • Good job! It definitely feels good after six weeks to have figured out what he wants when he wants it. My mom likes to keep him awake and not listen when I say he needs to start being rocked to sleep. She paid for that when he turned into a monster and I told her she wasn't leaving until she put him to sleep because it was her fault I was stuck with Ivan the Terrible...lol.

  • Go mama!! I get on hubs for keeping him up when I say he's ready to go to bed. He does most of his talking leading up to his crying fest us you don't out him to sleep in time. Hubs has yet to listen to me. Then looks crazy when I walk out the room.

  • I was excited yesterday when i predicted that DS' wide eyed, rapid breathing, hands up actions were predicting spit up. We call it "doing the crab." Lol

    Good job, mama!
