So the other day at work, we had a patients family member allow her baby to crawl all around on the hospital floor and then all over the waiting room floor. She was approached by some staff informing her that it wasn't a good idea and her response was that the baby would get a strong immune system. ??? All of us nurses were mortified. Not only is there dried blood, urine, dirt from shoes, etc., there is also germs from infections like MRSA, VRE, C. Diff, just to name a few. The hospital does use cleaning agents to kill these germs but it certainly isn't 100%. I don't know too many adults who would crawl all around the floor and then lick their hands so why would anyone let their baby?? Sad and scary. Just my opinion.
Re: Babies crawling on hospital floor! yuck
I work in a hospital too. It baffles me to see children/babies brought onto floors and then left unattended. I think it's obviously assumed that hospital's are gross, but the bodily fluids sick people make are insane. This isnt your mildly dirty bathroom- alot of these people have hep, HIV, MRSA, the big bugs.
Babies and sick areas dont mix.
I work in a hospital too and have seen the same thing. Ugh. If I drop my pen on the floor, I clean it off. People want me to bring my son in to visit, but I won't. It's too gross. I keep my work shoes in the garage, too.
