About a month ago, I gave DD2 some mashed banana and she ended up throwing up repeatedly about 2 hrs later. I wasn't sure if it was the banana or if it was b/c I had also nursed her right after giving her her evening dose of Prevacid (you're supposed to wait 30 min to feed after a dose). I had given her mashed banana without incidence prior to this.
Well last night, I gave her some mashed banana for dinner and again, she threw up repeatedly a few hrs later. : / I felt so bad for her last night. She would throw up and then pass out on me, wake up 15 min later and throw up again, then pass out, repeat, repeat until she was dry heaving. I ended up sleeping on her floor once I was able to put her back in her crib. This morning, she had the worst blow out too, but thankfully has been back to her old self. Poor thing.
On a less serious note - I wish my DD's would sync up their FA's instead of having different ones. : /

I hate that feeling when kids throw up, pass out, then repeat. I feel so bad for them, because you know it is taking a ton of energy to do. Hope this is the last one you have to avoid!!!
And, it would be difficult with 2 kids having different allergies! But, you seem to have a good repertoire for meals to choose from (you have given me lots of ideas!)
I'm sorry!We had the exact same thing happen with bananas at around 6.5 months.We haven't tried it since.

Have you looked into FPIES (food protein induced entercolitis syndrome)? One of the classic characteristics is delayed vomiting.
My son has it to squash and milk and now that we have identified it, its very manageable and most kids outgrow it. Its not a food allergy, its an autoimmune response. It wont show up on an Ige test.
Theres a really active babycenter.com group, where you can get a lot of information and insight.

I've heard of FPIES, but haven't researched it much. It scares me. : / Is your DS able to tolerate other foods? I'll check out the babycenter group, thanks!
I emailed our allergist and he said he thinks it's an intolerance rather than an allergy. I think we'll do a blood test at her 9 month check up and see what that shows. I might ask the pedi for a referral to a GI too. Between her reflux, MSPI, and this reaction, I'd feel better if she saw a specialist at this point.

My son is only able to eat bananas at this point. We trialed potatoes this weekend and its looking like he will be failing them (yucky diapers).
Once the potatoes clear out of his system and hes back to baseline we will likely try blueberries (i need something for him to work on his pincer grasp with, since he cannot have puffed rice or potatoes).
FPIES is not fun and it breaks my heart for my son because he wants to eat food so bad! But I always try to remind myself that it could be worse and most babies grow out of it!
So sorry you're dealing with this. I'm still waiting on the test results, ugh. I read some on the FPIES foundation website - has your DS had episodes of vomiting? The website makes it sound like you're supposed to take LO to the ER when that happens in case they go into shock...Have you ever had to take him to the ER?

Unfortunately, we had a three day stay at a childrens hospital about a month ago. It was partially to get him in to see the GI and Allergist who are familiar with FPIES and because he was dehydrated from his reaction. However, unless your child is head into shock (see below) or has been vomiting/diarrhea for a week, you probably dont need to go to the ER, but monitor it very closely.
He had a vomit to shock episode with squash. Luckily, I had no idea at the time that he was going in to shock or I would have literally flipped out. I found out after his diagnosis that vomiting then passing out is a sign of severe fast on-set dehydration as a result of the FPIES reaction. It is not something to be taken lightly, and luckily its only happened once. A few minutes after the vomit/pass out/vomit/pass out episode from squash he took a whole eight ounces of formula, which I later learned was a very good thing, and kept him from needing an ambulance ride to the hospital.
He has had less severe reactions (vomiting every bottle, mucous poo, bloody mucous poo, diarrhea- sometimes just one, sometimes all listed) to milk and we think rice.
We are new to the FPIES world, but I can tell you that the babycenter board is by far the most informative and helpful thing on the internet, for FPIES at least. I am not much of a poster on message boards but after seeing your post, I had to interject, because I wish someone would have told me earlier to look into FPIES. My little one fell off the growth charts because he literally had FPIES reactions for a whole month, because I didnt know he couldnt do rice and milk (we were transitioning from Nutramigen to Gentlease).

Okay, see I think the reaction DD had last week was a vomit to shock reaction. I had no idea at the time.
I read about them becoming pale or their lips turning blue, but I don't know if that happened as I just had the night light on in her room. But she vomited a huge amount at first and then smaller amounts every 10-15 minutes until she was just dry heaving. In between vomiting, she was falling asleep on me, or that's what I thought anyway. When she finally stopped throwing up/heaving, she slept for two hours and then woke up and nursed and slept another couple hours and then nursed again. She slept another couple hours and then was up for the day and had the biggest diaper blowout I've ever seen and it was mucousy. But she was back to her normal self by then. Ugh, this is freaking me out.
I'm still waiting on the banana allergy test results. I emailed her pedi yesterday to give her a head's up too, but I don't think she was in yesterday. DD2 has a 9 month check up in a couple weeks, but I asked the pedi if she wants to meet before then to discuss this, so I'll see what she says. In the mean time I haven't given DD2 any more solids cause I'm too scared to.
