mobile

Please tell me your thoughts on these, does your baby love it?  Does it help them sleep?

Re: mobile

  • Im wondering the same thing...my mom just talked me into buying one. I haven't used it yet but got one for a really great deal. I'm hoping it will help her get used to her crib.

She loves it, but it doesn't help her sleep. Ours only goes for a few minutes, so I'd have to sit there and keep winding it.  Sometimes I change her clothes while she's laying in the crib and it keeps her occupied.

  • I don't think it helps him sleep, but he loves to look at his mobile!  It doesn't light up or make music, it's a handmade one from esty.  He is fascinated by it!!

  • I just this afternoon put one on DS's crib. It was the first nap in weeks that he didn't scream in protest. I tried to get him in the crib before he seemed sleepy, but after doing a nap routine (diaper, lights off, fan on, story book, lamp off, crib) and sat in a desk chair next to the crib. He wanted to grin and talk to me for a while, so after a few minutes I laid my head on my arms on the side of the crib and closed my eyes. This shifted his focus to the mobile. He watched it for a long time and would babble and occasionally fuss. When h fussed, I patted him on the tummy or rubbed his head. After about 20 minutes, he pulled my hand up to cover his eyes, and he finally closed his eyes and went to sleep. I don't know if he was using my hand to block the visual stimulus, and if that is the case then the mobile might be working against me. I do plan to try it a few more times, though. It seemed to help mellow him out a little...but it could have been the timing, or the newish nap routine, or just the planets lining up in the right order. lol

  • Haven't tried a mobile but LO loved to look at the ceiling to fall asleep when he was in our room. Now that he is in his crib he falls asleep with the cloud b turtle that projects stars onto the walls and ceiling. But since this won't work for daytime nights Im thinking about getting a crib soother type device that he can stare at to help with naps. So far he's been napping in his swing or carseat when we're out but I would love to get him napping in his crib.
  • We have a ceiling projector. It has three different discs to change the projection. It is also a white noise machine. While it plays a three lullabies it also has a heartbeat, ocean and rain setting. Because it plugs in it will stay on all night and it also provides enough light that I don't need a night light to check on him. Every time DH and I stay at a hotel from now on we are barrowing this from the nursery. : its made by Homedics.
  • My LO loves hers. It stimulates her though. When I want her to nap I do not turn it on and she just looks at it. When I put her in the crib for a few minutes while I take care of a chore or shower, I put it on and it keeps her occupied for sometimes up to 20 or 25 minutes. It works, but like I said, can be too stimulating.

  • He seems to love it..mine lights up & spins & plays music (when he's older it can transition to put the light on the ceiling which will be nice when he's older.. he already loves music so I think it helps soothe him!
  • we have one above the crib that i made- he likes to look at it.  sometimes when I am having trouble getting him down for a nap, i will put him in his crib and give the mobile a push to get it going, then i'll leave but leave the door open a bit so it isn't totally dark.  He'll usually just fuss for a little while and watch the mobile until he falls asleep.
  • Our LO likes it, especially when I'm changing him- he's fascinated. I think it does help him sleep because as soon as I turn it he's out like a light.

  • We have a mobile but I do not use it for sleep. It entertains DD and I will lay her in her crib once her twice during the day for her to look at it and she will babble and laugh at it. I don't see how it would promote sleep since it gets her so excited so I don't use it at night.
