Two Under 2

Bathing two under 2 together

Thoughts on safe ways to do this? I will have an infant and a 22 mo old. A separate thread got me thinking... someone mentioned a Primo infant bath seat that suctions to the bottom of the bathtub. I was thinking this nigh work to hold the baby and DS would just sit in the tub as he does now. Experiences/suggestions?

  • We had something like this. I took DS out first and dressed him right next to the tub, then out him in the bouncy seat (in the bathroom) while I finished up with DD.

  • My girls are almost 22 months apart.

I bathed DD2 in her infant tub until she absolutely couldn't fit in there anymore. Then I switched to a bath seat (the kind with suction cups) in the regular bath tub - I have been bathing the girls together since DD2 was about 6 months old.

We waited until my baby was much older (like 7 months). We bathed the baby at lunch and the toddler before bed. Worked great.

  • We also waited to bathe them together - I think DD2 was about 8-9 months old when we started putting them in at the same time. We wanted her to be sitting up well and able to hold her own against her sister a little first :) Until then I bathed the baby in the infant tub or sink while DH bathed the toddler in the regular tub.

  • My answer? Don't. I don't even bathe DD1 and DS (3 and almost 2) together when I'm alone.

    Nope.

  • I have the Primo Eurobath, with an infant and toddler side. I haven't done it yet but I could bathe them together. I don't like the idea of having LO#1 in water with my hands tied up by the baby, just in case. When they're older, sure, no problem.

I have the Primo bath and loved it for DD but there's no way I would be comfortable having them in it together.  Too small and I know baby would wind up kicked.

I use this for the baby when bathing both.

  • So maybe this is one of those things that sounds like a good idea in theory but is actually pretty tough?  It'll probably be a no-brainer once #2 is actually here!  Thanks for the advice.

  • Definitely wait until the younger one is about 6months and able to sit up in the tub by themself.  Once when DS was little I put DD in the big tub and put the infant tub on the bathroom floor- it was a DISASTER, water was spilling out all over the place.  Also if DD was around when DS was getting a bath she wanted to climb into the baby tub.  When I was on ML I tried to bathe DS when DD was napping.  Once I went back to work I generally did 1 kid per night until they were able to go in together.  Now they go in together everynight and absolutely love it.

  • I used to put DS in the First Years infant toddler tub and then fill the big tub around him for DD. It worked fine for us. Then once DS was sitting up well on his own they both just sat in the big tub. Only in the past week have they wanted separate tubs so they have room to "swim".

    Yup

Us too. I love that I can bathe them together! We spent a pretty penny on a bath seat for the tub, but it was so worth it. We only stopped using it a week ago. They love bathing together also. We got this seat:

  • So apparently I'm the odd one out.  I started bathing the 2 together when the youngest was about 6 weeks old.  We have a little angle thing that holds baby's head out of the water so it was very easy to bath them together.  We used that until the youngest could sit well unasisted and now they just both play together sitting in the tub.

It's so easy to bath them together.  I wash baby's hair and body first, take her out and dress her beside the tub, then get the oldest clean.

ya I guess I'm odd too but DH gets home very late so I really have no choice. I also started around 6 weeks and never had any issue with Doing both at the same time.

It was riskier to me to let DD run around while I bathe the baby and her bedroom is right next to the bathroom so doing it during her nap wasn't an option either (he cried during every bath...still isn't thrilled about water).

  • We bathed separately until DS could sit up and had good core strength.  Then I put him in a bath seat and bathed them together.  So... I think I started bathing them together when DS was 8 months and DD was just turning 2.

I borrowed my friend's bath seat and I'm glad I didn't purchase my own because we really only used it for about 3 months.  DS quickly got big/strong enough that the bath seat wasn't necessary.

  • I bathed them seperate until DD2 was 7 months old.  I didn't push it either.  I was bathing DD2 one night and DD1 asked to join and I've bathed them together ever since.  It was easier when DD2 couldn't crawl, now all they do is fight in the tub!

I did them at the same time for the first 2 months with DD2 in baby bath on floor and DD1 in the regular tub (I was in the middle) and then started doing it for both at the same time in the big tub. DH is an OTR driver so it's up to me to do baths. I still get DD2 out first and allow DD1 to play while I dress DD2.
