Finally got a chance to get on here to update!
BM contacted us Tuesday morning at 6 am because she was having contractions. We were an hour away but took quick showers, packed up and ran into some traffic so we got there around 8 am. It all went pretty quickly. We got to hear the baby's heart beat and see an u/s though I couldn't tell what anything was and the nurse wasn't really telling me anything as she checked. It took them a couple hours to even check if BM was dilated and how much but when they did, she was already 5 centimeters. Then around noon, DH and I went to grab a quick sandwich in the hospital cafeteria and as we were walking back up to the room, BM called to say her water broke..DD was born at 1:34 pm -- 8 lbs, 4 ounces, 20 inches long, very healthy!
It all was so perfect. I was with BM from the moment we arrived to the moment DD was born (and this was the first time we met in person). We even hung out in her room the rest of the day after the birth pretty much. I was more involved with delivery than I expected..the nurses asked me to hold BM's leg so I was up there in all the action and even cut the umbilical cord. DH was in the room too, but standing back a little, haha. We were THRILLED to find out it was a girl (BM thought boy for sure) and that she was perfectly healthy, such a relief!
Day 2 in the hospital, BM signed all the paperwork in the morning and then texted us a little after lunch to say we could go to her room if we wanted. We took DD and hung out for a while. She seemed very comfortable with her decision. We really have very little concern about her changing her mind. She has 7 days from Wednesday I guess...so keeping the prayers up while we wait for the time to pass.
Next weekend, if all goes well, I will be bouncing off the walls and finally truly able to celebrate how absolutely amazing this experience was for us. I will continue to update and follow everyone, but I so much appreciate all the wonderful support you all have provided.
