Baby names

I will be 5 weeks tomorrow with my first pregnancy! We have told our families but are waiting to tell everyone else until we are out of the first trimester (hopefully I can wait that long). I am also holding off on doing and shopping until then. My question is regarding baby names. At what point did you decide on names? I am feeling very antsy.

Re: Baby names

  • We talked about names for years before we even started TTC. We narrowed the list down throughout my last pregnancy and then narrowed down to 2 about a month before I was due. Deciding between the 2 was a game time decision. I love my son's name so the last minute decision thing worked out for us!

This time around, DH wanted to start talking names today already. I'm not there yet...I want to at least hear a heartbeat before I start thinking about names.

  • We have known our boy names before we ever got married. If this baby is a boy his name will be either Houston Garner or Henry Barnett. They are all names on my DH's family.
If this baby is a girl I love Charlotte or Camille, but my DH isn't sold on either one of those.

I love thinking about baby names and love hearing names that other people like!

  • Congrats! Hopefully you can hold in the exciting news! We are 5 weeks as of yesterday and I feel like I'm about to burst!

DH and I had settled on names before we were even married. We picked out names for the 1st girl/boy and so on. Which was a huge relief! I have a few friends who had their little one this past June and didn't start talking about names till the 3rd trimester, they decided on the way to the hospital what little girls name would be. I would say you can start now. Even is you don't decide for a few more months its still fun to look!

  • We choose our names during my first pregnancy. We were so excited. I looked (and bought) some baby clothes, etc. When I MC I personally think it made it that much harder for me. It's weird because i'm trying not to make a connection early on this time. I worry about MC all the time. I haven't allowed myself to tell anyone, even think about names, or anything else baby related. I am making myself wait until my US at 8 weeks. Even when I got my beta #s back and they were good i wasn't eased in worried. I need to see a heartbeat before I go into planning. So i think for everyone it is different. I'm not strong enough to let myself get attached yet...

  • We've had our names picked out for 2 years! This is also our first pregnancy. The names are family names, so I don't think we will change our minds.

  • With my girls we decided one at 34 months and the other on the way to the hospital when I was 5cms dilated! It was hard for dh and I to agree

  • I can't get DH to really discuss names until after the a/s at 20ish wks.  Since we have 2 girls, we've only kicked around boy names a little.

We went into the hospital with DD1 having 2 top names.  When DD2 came we gave her the other one.

  • We had our girl's name picked out before we were married, and our boy's middle name (if we ever have a son, his middle name will be Joshua after our friends' DS who passed away as an infant).  We used our girl's name for our DD, Charlotte Grace, when we got the results of my D&C back and found out that she was a girl, so now we have to decide on another girl's name.  And we've never been able to agree on a boy's first name yet.

  • We have a boy name picked out (Henry) if this one's a boy... but we had a boy name picked out last time too, and about three-quarters of the way through the pregnancy we changed our minds and picked a new one that we fell in love with.  DS is such a Sam, I'm glad we changed out minds!

We've also got a few girl names we like but we're far from having one picked out!  It can be hard to find a name that both of you love...

I know lots of couples that have a few on a list and wait to see their baby before making a final decision!

  • With DD, we already had a few boys names in mind, but no girls names... we didn't start looking until we found out the gender, in which case, we didn't really nail it down until a couple of months before she was born...

  • I really love the name cash for a boy or ryder. For a girl I love laney, I think I had more names stashed and written down in my baby book. One positive about being a single parent is ex really won't have control what I want to name the baby.

  • We started discussing names when we found out the gender at 20 weeks.  We narrowed it down to 3 but didn't agree on the name for my son until we were at the hospital and I was in labor.

  • I LOVED playing with baby names for DD! Picking a girl one was really hard and I stressed over it massively until I went into labor, and then I just knew exactly what we'd name her. So I've been in the name game for the past 19 months... our boy name is set in concrete, so that's all good. As for a girl name, that probably won't be decided until she's born, if LO is a she.

According to the whole first day of last AF, I'm about 5 weeks too, but I know we conceived the 18th or 19th. We're going to announce it at Thanksgiving dinner! I'll probably hold off on shopping until March or April, but we still have everything big from DD so we'll only need a carseat, stroller frame and breast pump and some little odds and ends.

Proud babywearing, breastfeeding, vaccinating SAHM of 2U2!
