Did anyone's OB NOT do an exam at 6 week appt.?

I went in for my 6 week pp appt. expecting a pelvic exam and also a breast exam since I ebf. I have heard that both are standard. Instead, my OB talked to me about doing the deed and birth control (recommended just sticking to condoms since any hormonal birth control method will affect my supply). He also told me that I was due for my annual in January but that he didn't need to see me until March and then he sent me on my way.

Does this sound like anyone else's experience or did my OB just get really lazy?

  • That sounds very much like my appt. I had a c/s though, and she checked my scar, but that was it.

  • mine talked BC, did internal, pap and checked scar and breast exam. I had a CS too.

    sounds weird Huh?

  • I had a vaginal delv, but I got a full pelvic and breast exam and I'm sched to go back in for my yearly this month.
  • Hmmm. Mine did an internal to check my incision (episiotomy) and she felt my uterus. That does seem odd but did you have a c/s?
  • Yeah, that sounds exactly like my appointment.  He did poke around on my stomach for a second, but that was it.  I felt like a freak ASKING for a pelvic exam, so I didn't say anything.  I do think it was weird, though.

I delivered vaginally. I thought it was weird, but I was NOT about to ASK for an exam as pp said.

    Thank you everyone!!

  • My OB office stopped doing internals at the f/u appts 2 years ago.

    I am not complaining! ?

  • That does sound weird. If you had a vaginal birth, he/she should have at least checked whether you are healed or infected. I used to have a female obgyn (most of my life) and then switched to a male one (by accident) and I notice that he has to call in a female nurse to watch when he checks me down there.  I'm sure it's some precaution. So if your ob is a male, that might explain why he didn't do it... didn't want to call in a nurse perhaps?
  • I'm late to this, but I didn't have an exam at my 6 week. My Dr was in the room litterally 2-3 minutes. Asked if I had any questions or concerns. Asked how I was feeling. And that was it. We discussed BC at my 2 week appt, so he didn't even mention that at 6 weeks.
  • I'm late, too, but I didn't have a pelvic exam either.  The MW asked if I had any issues, I said no, and she said she didn't need to examine me then unless I wanted one.  I didn't have any tearing or stitches, though, so I wasn't concerned at all that she didn't examine me.
