Registering for toys?

Just wondering if anyone registered for any toys and got them?

I very much understand that the registry is just a suggested list of items but I find it an odd coincidence that the only thing not purchased off of our registry was our small amount of toys we registered for.

All of the toys were 0-9 months and either soothing / educational? Do people see these as luxuries / not necessary? I feel kind of dumb registering for them now.

Re: Registering for toys?

  • I didn't register for rattles and the like because a lot of people attach them to the outside of the gift (at least I do).  I did register for some toys, but they were more for 6 mo and up and got them.  My DD was born in the fall though and I knew Christmas was coming up and I knew family would want to get her toys then so I didn't go overboard.  I registered for a Jumperoo, play mat, etc. and I consider those as "toys".

  • We didn't register for small toys but we did register for some bigger toy like items like a jumper and play mat. Although I think people will usually pick up some small toys like clothes and they like to pick this stuff out or suggest what their child likes

  • I think it's perfectly fine to register for them.

  • I think it's fine to register for them.  I didn't but I've seen lots of people do it.

  • I registered for some small toys.  I wanted to give people some inexpensive choices.  I don't think there's anything wrong with it.
  • I registered for small toys and some have already been bought! I'm stalking my registry (shower is Oct 20).

This, exactly.  Not all of them for sure, but a few at least.  And, my shower is Oct. 20th too.

Funny thing--your friends and family can get you whatever they want for you, not just what you approve for them.

  • I don't think there's anything wrong with registering, especially since it's just a suggested list of things to get.

However, I do think people want to make sure you have everything you NEED before things that are seen as more of "wants" (not that you wouldn't buy it but they want to help you out with getting everything). Yes, I would say developmental toys are important.... but not within the first month or so of life. People may buy those needed items first and then once LO is born spoil him/her with a couple "unnecessary items". Least that's what I noticed when I had LO

  • I registered for a few small toys like a Sophie and rattles and such. All the showers I've been to the mommies have received toys similar to this. I imagine it was probably a coincidence unless of course you registered for Legos or something hahahah.
  • Don't forget, that by the time your LO is ready for these toys, Christmas and/or a birthday will probably be just around the corner.

I'd focus on the items that would be unlikely to show up underneath the Christmas tree for a baby shower, and then trust that your immediate family will probably take great joy in shopping for and gifting toys as presents once LO is old enough.

Besides which, you can get a smoking deal on used toys at a children's consignment shop if you don't receive any at the shower.

  •  I have purchased toys a lot for showers I have gone to. Mostly for friends that I wasn't very close to. I didn't have a big budget for them and toys were perfect specially if it was already in the registry.
  • i wouldn't buy a toy for a shower gift unless it was a cute bear or something to add to the gift. I think there are more "important" things that the baby is going to need then a toy especially when they are so little.  Also, that is a gift that many people bring when they go to meet the baby. That is just my opinion
