If you made your LO's party decor

Why did you do it?

Did anyone help you?

I have been planning Bo's party since January, and it is driving me BSC that my MIL all of the sudden is wanting to help make the last bit of decorations. This is something I want to do for Bo! I cannot explain why, but I know I want to have it be something I make and not every Tom, ***, and Harry ( haha, that phrase just came to mind).

Re: If you made your LO's party decor

  • I made a Happy Birthday banner that I'm really proud of! I made it probably because of Pinterest and you girls on TB making me feel like I *had* to craft something - peer pressure! I'm so glad I did though. I felt so proud of myself and I got a lot of compliments on it. I'll do a PIP of it some day this week along with other party pics. I got a little help from a coworker but otherwise I did it all myself.

  • I did the decorations myself because if they weren't finished or done the way I liked, I only had myself to be mad at! Also, I had a hard time letting go of the invitations and letting H's aunt do them because of the same reason, although she's very crafty so they came out awesome!

We also did all the food prep the night before and it was actually quite fun, even if we stayed up until 3am! It would have been a nightmare had we had the whole family there helping.

  • I did it because for one it helped saved money. DH just graduated and i'm still in school. We make fairly good money but we live in a nicer area of town for safety reasons so we don't have a lot of extra money.  wanted to make sure DS still had everything I wanted him to have, even if we couldn't afford an extravagant party
I also did it because I wanted to make his party personalized. I love making him things, I always want him to feel special. Smile

DH helped some with the food and he also made cornhole sets. He even made a tiny one for DS! I made the bags and made smaller ones for DS's set. It was so cute, he loved crawling up to them and putting his bags in.

Aw! I think he will always feel special!!

What on earth is a cornhole set?

  • I made B's tutu, banner, cupcakes, and other decorations. The only thing I ordered was the decal for her shirt, but I'll probably make one myself next year.

I'm very much a DIYer. I also like crafting, but hadn't done anything since B was born. I would work on her party things and watch tv after she went to bed. It was nice to have that "me" time.

  • Oh, I forgot about food and cake! As I've gotten older (and done more hosting) I've learned to accept help in the food department. I used to do everything myself (out of pride and need for control) but now I ask for help. I made italian beef for sandwiches and had our moms and my gram each bring the side dishes. I also did the appetizers myself and the cake. It was important to me to bake the cake from scratch.

  • I made some of his decorations simply because I wanted to. We made a lot of the food to save money. I had a lot of help from my H, mom and MIL, even my dad helped with the clean up. We had so much fun putting everything together and it was so much less stress for me, especially since I wasn't feeling that well at the time.

You don't know what cornhole is??? Hmm...maybe it's an "Ohio" thing, haha.

It's a game where you play with two teams of two and you and one of your teammates stand by each board. There's a hole in the middle and you try to throw the bag into it. If you get the bag on the board you get a point and if you get it in the hole you get 3 points but the other person on the opposite team is trying to throw at the same board and you can cancel each other's points out. Sorry i that made no sense whatsoever but that's how you playSmile

Here's a picture of one of the boards he made for us and one for DS before he sanded and painted it. We made DS one just so he could have fun putting the bags in the hole and taking them out.
