Baby bullies

I admit when Bo is playing with other babies and pulls on their shirt or goes to grab their hair I definitely try and intercept or take his hand off and say my usual "hands are not for ____". BUT!!! I really do not this it is *that* big of a deal! He is a baby who can crawl all over his mommy, daddy, and dog so he has not learned differentiation yet! In time he will learn or I will incorporate a consequence but now he is just a baby in my eyes.

The first week at book babies Bo went to grab a kid's shirt and I grabbed his hand--said my phrase-- and looked to the kid's mom to say sorry. She was awesome and said "not a big deal...they are babies"! right on lady!

The next week Bo went for a different Kid's shirt, I caught it before he actually had a hold of it, and said sorry to the mom and she freaked out saying he may be a baby bully??????????????????

Okay, I am willing ot hear that my kid is doing something wrong...but really? a baby bully? I do not buy it.

I do not want to be that mom that thinks her kid's wrong behavior is cute (because it actually is.. he goes for the shirt and is so quiet and with big eyes and then smiles as he tries to pull himself up), but in this case, I do not see the big deal. I am right there trying to teach him and he is not maliciously trying to hurt another baby,.

Re: Baby bullies

  • He is not a bully!  I think that's all perfectly normal behavior for a baby-they are still figuring out their world!  I'm with you on not wanting to find my baby's inappropriate behavior to be cute, but L does the same thing.  In the church nursery she pulls on the other babies' shirts because she likes the name stickers on the back!  She likes to go up to her cousin and "tap" him on the head with both hands-I always make her stop in case it hurts, but its just because she's excited to see him.

  • The other mom sounds like a crazy person. A baby bully? Seriously? Babies aren't malicious or manipulative, they don't even know how to think like that.

Bo grabs a hold of the kids shirt and tries to pull himself up? Sounds perfectly normal to me. Babies don't realize that they can hurt other people, he just wants to stand up and that baby is convenient.

Plus, I do not believe that the angelic boy in your pictures would ever be mean :)

  • That woman is cray-cray. A baby bully? Are you kidding me? How does this mom not know this is what babies do? Q was throwing toys around a little baby this weekend. It wasn't 'cause of anything except he just learned how to throw. I said no and took the toys away.

You're fine Beca, gentle discouragement and then distraction and continue to teach that hitting, grabbing, pulling is not nice. I'm right there with you.

  • Are you kidding me??? A baby bully? Look at precious Bo, there is no way he could be a bully!

That woman is off her rocker. He's a baby. He's just exploring his world. He doesn't mean to cause any harm. Now if he's still doing that when he's 12...then you may have a problem but until them don't worry.Wink
  • Wow! I can't imagine the look I would have given someone who said that to me. Haha

  • I lovingly call Kaiden a bully. He pulls DDs hair, bites, and smacks us. But he's never done it to other babies.

Even though I say it about mine, I would never say it about someone else's baby.

  • The "baby bully" behavior is very normal at this age (I say it in quotes because I do not believe they can be bullies at this age but have heard the term used myself). I wouldn't worry about it at all! The best you can do is just keep modeling the behavior you want to see and correcting him if you think he is doing something wrong.
