it's a super common Irish name that isn't very popular here
Eamon Devalera was one of the freedom fighters for independent Ireland starting in 1915-16 and was president of Ireland from the late 50s until the mid 70s (he was OLD!)
I thought Ay-mon/min immediately. I LOVE really, really Irish names!
FWIW, Declan is one of my favorites, but DH vetoed it. (And it doesn't sound great with our last name.)
I've loved it since high school (I was inspired by Elvis Costello...his real name is Declan) but it's SO popular now (for me)...it feels too trendy I had no idea!
DEfinitly Ay-Mon, its a great Irish name, although it definitly has potential for pronunciation issues in the future! Have you considered Dillon too? Its my brother's name, so I'm partial to it
I know an Eamonn (same spelling), so I would say it Ay-mn. It would be such an easy fix if people mispronounce it. I hope you don't let that be a deal breaker for you. Great name!
Re: how would you pronounce Eamonn?
I would probably pronounce it EE - Mon
A-Mohn.
Everyone I know who is an EAmonn pronounces it with the long A at the front and mohn at the end.
