VBAC

VBAC success!!

I was due on 10/4, but the little guy decided to come 2 weeks early!  My water broke last wednesdayjust after I finished making dinner, was sent to the hospital and admitted....and waited.  I was having contractions all night, but nothing consistent and they had me hooked up to the monitors all night long, so it was a very long boring night.  The next morning the new doctor came in and checked me to find I was still only 2 cm dilated, but he also found a small sac that had t ruptured, so he ruptured it and told me to get moving!  I walked and walked and walked throughout L&D allll day long.  I would have about 3 contractions in a row then they would stop.  I started bouncing on a ball around 3, had a breakdown because I thought I would never go. Into labor on my own, then at 4 I got off the ball to go for another walk with DH and all of a sudden the contractions came in hard and fast! They got extremeely intense just before the switch of shifts so no one was available to give me an epi, which made me a bit crazy!  The nurse gave me a little pain mess just to get through until the anesthesiologist could get in.  Once he did, it was pure bliss!  Around 1030 I started feeling the conteactions a little harder and the OB decided to check me and I was 10cm.  I was so thrilled because I could a actually feel the urge to push, which I couldn't with DD.  I started pushing around 11pm and by 1135, Ethan arrived!  He was awhile pound bigger than DD, but the delivery was so perfect.  I cannot believe how great I felt afterwards and how great it felt to be able to hold him right away.  With DD it was about 3 hours because I was so weak and out of it.  I have a minor tear, but no repair necessary and I have one awesome hemmie, but otherwise, I feel like a million bucks.  I cannot believe how much easier this recovery is vs. with DD.  With her, I thought I had a pretty easy recovery, but this is a whole new world!  Even with a crazy toddler running around And being sleep deprived, I have energy, no reveal pain and just overall feel happier!  I am so glad I opted for the VBAC even when one of the OB's in the practice tried to scare me away from it.  I'm sorry ths is so long, but wanted to share my very positive VBAC experience.  Tha is for reading if you still are!  Also sorry for all the typos, I'm on my iPad.

  • Congrats on your VBAC and your new baby! If you don't mind telling, what was the reason for your csection?

DD was sunny side up, I was pushing for 2 1/2 hours, had 2 failed vaccum attempts and her heart rate started decelerating and not recovering.  It was not quite an enjoyable experience to say the least!  Looking back I think I got the epi way too early and lost all function of my lower half.  I couldn't feel the urge to push or push effectively at all. Of course her positioning didn't help either.  This time around all of the  universes worked together to help me through this VBAC!

Thank you so much for this story! This was my EXACT situation. I apparently did push well according to the OB but I'm not sure because I felt nothing.  I could have pushed all day. It's so great to hear success stories fom people in similar situations. Congrats again!
