what to get for bday party present

DD just started preschool, and one of the kids in her class is having a bday party. I don't know the parents, but I want to take her b/c I want DD to make friends with the kids in her class.

Any ideas for what to bring as a gift? It's at a park outside, so I doubt he'll be opening them at the party if that matters.

In that case I would probably do Megablocks or Lego depending on how old he is. You can get them fairly cheap if you don't want to spend a lot and I've found that most kids love building blocks.
