Beaba BabyCook

Does anyone else have one of these nifty little things?  My MIL got us one and I LOVE it!  It makes making their food so easy.  I never would've gotten one for myself, but I'm so glad she picked it up for us.  My only complaint is that the one I have has been used so much (she bought it used) that the lid doesn't really click into place anymore and I have to stand there and hold it, but I doubt that would be the case with a newer one.

Anyway, Christmas is coming up, so if you're wanting to make your own baby food I highly recommend it.

Just thought I'd share.

No. The June moms keep reporting me, and I keep getting banned...so I just keep making new screen names while I try to work through things with Bump Kathleen.

What is a BLW?  I didn't really plan on making my own baby food, so I didn't do any research.  I just love the Beaba because it steams and purees and also because you can pour the water that the food steams in back in the food while pureeing (so the nutrients that seeped out while cooking go back into the food).

I didn't even report Husker when she wished someone would molest my babies.  I did report one of you but I don't remember what it was for.  You've said so much to me in the last few days that *should* have been reported that it's hard to keep track.

Anyway, I'm trying to have a conversation about baby food.  If you have something to add feel free, but I'm not going to continue to have this ridiculous conversation with someone pretending to be me when I was pretending not to be me...  :-/

It's baby lead weaning. Instead of giving purrees you just give the baby what your eating... as in a whole banana, sweet potato, carrots, broccoli, rice etc. It seems so much more natural to me, and the babies don't get confused with eating, as they are learning to chew, then swallow rather than just swallowing as they would with purrees. I'm really nervous about it as I'm worried about gagging/choking but the reasearch says the gag reflect slowly moves back to the back of the throat, so the sooner you give real solids, the less likely they will choke... becuase the younger they are, the closer to the front their gag reflex is therefore gaging is much less dangerous.

I haven't decided what we are going to do though. I think I might do a couple weeks of purees for my own sanity then more to whole foods sooner. I still have a month or 2 to decide!

  • I have one of these and really like it as well. It's super easy and the leftover cooking water can go right back into the purees. I made apples and pears today. The only thing I don't like is the size of the steamer basket. I have been making large batches and freezing it into cubes and it means that I have to do two batches of steaming. Small price to pay for ease though.

I could never do BLW.  We don't eat healthy enough!!  Also, I'm trying to do all organic for their food, but don't do the same for our food.  I think BLW sounds like an awesome idea if you make it a habit to eat healthy.

I agree that I wish it was bigger, especially since I'm cooking food for two babies.  I made sweet potatoes today and it held one potato cut up, but that only made enough for about 4 servings, so 2 meals for them.  I would be great if it were a little bigger.

If your going to buy all their food organic then you could do BLW with them still, just have them eat with you. That being said.. do you really eat that badly? It's really not that expensive to make healthy choices, especially if you know what to get where. You should really eat healthy for your children's sake:) Do you BF?

I breastfed until 11 weeks and then switched to formula.  I admit that we don't eat as healthily as we should, but I think the majority of the issue we'd have right now with BLW is that we really don't eat the things that they are eating, which right now is only peas (DH can't stand them) and sweet potatoes (I can't stand them).  Eventually I see us incorporating their meals into ours, but right now they're eating solids just 2x a day so it's easy to just keep it separate.
