Advice Needed: Sleeping

I delivered by c-section on Monday. Little Bit is five days old and has already been on three different medications for allergic reactions and terrible gas pains/upset stomach. Because of her not feeling well, we've had to hold her just to get her to sleep. As soon as we put her down, she screams and we can't get her to stop until we pick her up. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I've talked to her doctor about it, but so far nothing is working. I really hate to just let her lay there and scream, but that's what I've had several people tell me to do. I just don't know if my nerves could take that.

Re: Advice Needed: Sleeping

  • My baby girl will only sleep in my arms, so she sleeps right next to me on the bed. Its been great so far, shes always right where I left her when we wake up and I can always quickly look that she is okay. She hates the bassinet and will only nap for a few minutes in the swing, so co-sleeping it is.

  • Hey, sorry to hear you are having trouble. :( The hospital I delivered at gave me some info about babies and REM. They said that a lot of babies will cry upon being laid down and that some moms may be laying them down too quickly after they fall asleep. Babies go through 30 minute REM/Non-REM cycles. They are in deeper sleep when not in REM. If you haven't already, try laying with her skin-to-skin for 20 - 30 minutes until she falls into a deep sleep and is not in REM. That has worked for us since our little girl will do the same thing if we lay her down too fast.

  • A mom I know whose baby had a lot of tummy troubles swore by the Nap Nanny. It allows babies to sleep on an incline, which can help.

This ^  - If you do not want to go out and buy a nap nanny- let your LO sleep in their swing or their carseat- mine is fast asleep for the night in his swing because of the same issue
