Nervous about new reflux meds

I am soooo nervous about starting DS on new meds. The Zantac didn't seem to work so after 3 weeks on it, ped called in for a stronger med. The pharmacy called and said they didn't have all the ingredients to make it. The called around and found one who did. Then I start to worry how strong it really is because they have to make it and my insurance didnt cover it and wondering if he even has reflux even though he does have the symptoms and then feeling like a bad mom for drugging him. The new med is called firstoneprazole. Anyone have any experience with this?

I need a hug.

  • Addy is on it. Has to be refrigerated. No bigs. It works well. Expensive if insurance doesnt cover it. Though, so is zantac. Good luck. Docs know what they are doing. They wouldnt give lo anything not safe.

  • It's a compound. Basically they open Prilosec capsules, crush them up. And mix it with sodium bicarbonate. Keep it in the fridge. And it's only good for a certain number of days. I worked in a pharmacy for years, but it's been a while and mommy brain is kicking in. Think it's 30 days, but make sure.

  • I feel so much better! Thanks! DH said the same thing about my doctor being the one that diagnosed him based on what I said: fidgeting while eating, grunting while eating, crying 30 min after eating, stiff as a board while and after eating, not sleeping well

We only paid 12 dollars for the Zantac without insurance! It hadn't kicked in yet. Anyways, I wouldn't worry...Be is right, they wouldn't give LO anything unsafe. I used to work at CVS and a lot more medications have to be made than you would think, especially the baby ones! Hopefully it works!
