Emergency vs scheduled C-section

Hi ladies. I've been lurking on here for a while reading several of your posts. One thing that I've noticed is that a lot of you have said your recovery from a scheduled RCS was much easier than recovery from an emergency c-section. I'm wondering what the reason for this is? Any thoughts? TIA!

I had an unplanned, not scheduled, but not an emergency c/s and the recovery wasn't bad at all.

Neither of mine were "emergencies" (with my 1st I was bleeding, they couldnt tell why, the baby wasnt in distress but they gave their honest opinion that I could labor all night and the result would probably be the same which was c-section;  so I fore-went the laboring and had the c-section.....my 2nd was a RCS/scheduled but DS decided to show up early).  I felt my recovery from the 1st was easier but this doesnt mean that the 2nd was difficult.  I'm an older mom (had one at 38, the other at 40) and my CS were 22 months apart so with the second I was a little more sore.

My first one was harder to recover from because I had labored for 27 hours and was pushing 36 hours with no sleep and I was not prepared at all.The second one was planned, I was rested and ready.

I've only had one baby, but I was told by others that scheduled you heal faster cause the baby didn't go into the birth canal, you didn't do any pushing, you most likely didn't have any real contractions.

I had an emergency c-section. Healed really well, no complications. I don't see how it could heal any faster/smoother. Guess I'll find that out if we have more kids.

I had a c-section after a 48 hour failed induction (it was necessary, but not emergent) and then a true emergency c-section after DS2 was unresponsive and in distress.  The first one I was so exhausted from the labor that the recovery was difficult.  I was super swollen for days from all the fluids and meds.  I needed the stronger meds for about a week.  The second time around, I had slept the night before, so I was pretty rested.  My recovery was MUCH easier - minimal swelling and I was fine with just 600 mg ibuprofen w/in a day or so.

My c/s was a biitch to recover from considering the emotional toll(em. general anesthesia c/s) and I had to recover from a vaginal as well with horrible swelling and a tear(which didn't heal right postpartum). I was beyond exhausted after approx 30 hours induction labor, 3 hours pushing and only knew I was going to have a g/a cesarean for about 5 seconds before the put me out.

I didn't progress far enough in my labor to push, but I had barely slept for over two days because of labor - about 52 hours from the time I first felt contractions until my c-section.

My physical recovery was easy (as far as recoveries go), but I was so emotionally, physically, and mentally drained from everything that happened pre-surgery that it took me awhile to recover from that, if that makes sense.

Not going into labor is easier on your body. Pretty simple, really.

I had an emergency c-section and my recovery was very easy.  I'm hoping that I recover just as well with my planned.  I did not labor at all with ds.  From what I hear recovery is harder when you go through labor for hours and hours only to wind up with a c-section.

I haVen't had an RCS yet, but I would imagine that the difference is that you haven't put your body through the stress of labor, and are literally walking yourself in to surgery, so your muscles don't also have to recover, and you usually walk in to the RCS with a lot more rest than an emergency situation.  So again, your body starts out better off before the surgery than it would be for an emergency.

I was tired after 24 hours of labor and my ob came in said I could labor for another 24 hours and be made to have a csection or have a csection then. recovery wasnt bad at all for me. I was just so tired from labor, the meds, I wasnt feeling well at all during labor, csection. or afterwards.

My first was a scheduled c/s at 39 weeks. Recovery was fine. My second was an emergency/unplanned c/s at 33 weeks after pPROM/early labor and recovery was a bazillion times easier. I think this was the case for two reasons: 1) I knew what to expect and how important it is to get up and moving asap; 2) my daughter was in the NICU so I had to get up and moving, plus my mind was distracted by thinking about her.

I have a feeling everyone's c/s experience is specific to them, both the way they build it up in their head/think about it and their pain tolerance, etc.  Plus, just like every pregnancy is different, I'm sure every delivery (even c/s) is different.

I have only had one - and similar to other posts, mine was not technically an emergency, but unplanned, rather than scheduled.  My water broke and I pushed unsucessfully for 5 hours.  Around the 18 hr mark, I started running a fever, so due to the risk of infection, they suggested the vacuum or a c section and I opted for the section.  I feel like my recovery was fantastic.  I was up and around fairly quickly and able to do the stairs in my townhouse without too much trouble at all.  Also, I was 30 at the time. I think if you are younger, recovery might be even easier!
