Anyone's LO doesn't like being held?

DS doesn't like being held when he is awake and alert.  He loves lying there by himself so that he can kick his arms and legs, and wants someone to sit and play with him, and is very interactive.  But if you try to hold him (and it doesn't matter who does it or what position we try to hold him), he'd tolerate it for 10 - 15 minutes and then he'd start to cry.  This really wasn't a problem except now he has a flat spot on the back of his head and we've been told to try and keep him off his back more often - which is hard to do when he doesn't like being held.  Just curious if anyone else's LO is like this.

  • This isn't the case for us all the time, but sometimes when she's crying and we've ruled out the usual things, all she wanted was to lay down and kick. She doesn't mind being held as long as she can see what's going on around her. Maybe try holding LO toward the action?

  • Yeah, my son is like this too. Sometimes changing position helps, but most of the time it seems he tolerates it for 15-20mins max. If he's really tired and sick of lying down then we can pick him back up and rock him to sleep *sometimes*. Does your LO like tummy time? Maybe you could try that more, or lay him on his side with a rolled up blanket behind his back so he has to stay off his back.

  • Yep, DD rarely likes to be held unless she is being fed or is extremely sleepy. She would rather lay on her own and squirm around or sit in her bouncer or whatever so she can see us face to face. I'm actually really grateful that she is like this, it makes it way easier for me to accomplish stuff around the house!
