The sleep book I am reading right now recommends lovies so I am thinking about buying one of
these blankies because they're super cute and I want to help LO self-soothe at night. Do you think it is safe after 6 months? I have to admit I am so paranoid even though I know the SIDS risk is basically gone. Should I just get one and get over it? Sigh.

Re: Are lovies safe now?
I think it is all up to you, based on whether or not you feel safe with it.
My little guy has been holding his head up basically since we left the hospital (obviously to varying degrees), rolled over early, crawled early, and is already plotting out long treks across all of my livingroom furniture when he cruises, so I let him have a thin firm pillow to help him sleep in the angle he likes, and a blanket when he won't sleep in his jammies because he has enough control to push things away, and to squirm out from under anything that may cover his face.
Typically a blanket or stuffed animal. Although some children choose the oddest comfort items. I've seen children with comfort items such as washcloths, plastic toy, and one even insisted on a certain red block.
OP I have let our LO fall asleep with his blanket for the past few months. After he falls asleep I move it aside. He chose the blanket himself. If he hadn't I wouldn't have introduced anything at this time.
Edit: Spelling error.
