water breaking induction

I am freaking out. My DD heartbeat had some decels on the nst test this am, so we are going in for an induction today. 40w1d. I've had two previous had reactions to pitocin so they are starting with breaking my water. I've been 45 cm for over two weeks already. I really wanted a natural birth so I am freaking out. Anyone have experience with this type of induction?!?!?

Re: water breaking induction

  •  no personal experience, just means they monitor you more closely for infections and you will most likely not be able to labor longer than 24 hours.  the fact that you are already 4-5cm is definitely a huge help though.

    good luck!

  • No experience--just wanted to say good luck!
  • Good luck!  I would choose having my water broken over pitocin - hopefully it will much more smoothly than with the pit!!

ETA:  I'm sorry if that sounded like I downplayed the scariness of an induction - didn't mean that at all!  Just sending positive thoughts that hopefully that will be the ticket to get things moving so you can still go natural!! You can do it!! :)

  • I requested to have my water broken over starting with pit when I was induced. I was 3cm when I went in and within a few hours the contractions were super strong and regular. I was at 10 cm within 5 hours and never needed pitocin.

  • Thanks ladies. I was 5 to 6 cm and 0 station when they broke my water. My contractions immediately picked up, but they are still manageable. About every 7 minutes or so already. Wish me luck....hopefully I will have a healthy daughter tonight.

  • They broke my water to help me along before they went with Pitocin. It really helped get the contractions going at an even pace. It wasn't awful and it made a difference. You are way more open than I was at that point, so hopefully it solves it. GL and a smooth delivery.
