The past few days I have noticed LO breathing in almost like wheezing when she cries. She doesn't make the noise when she breathes, only when she is crying and gasping for more breath. I called her doc and she just said to monitor her and bring her in if I feel like it is getting worse...I don't know if this is just something new she learned how to do or if it may be something more.
I'm gonna say it's probably just something new she learned...DD started doing this a few months ago so I took her to the pedi to get her lungs checked and she was fine. She would do it when she was crying, laughing and sometimes when she would seem to get excited about something. I don't think she does it anymore - or I just don't notice it anymore LOL.
My DS was doing that and we took him to the pedi and he had croup. He had no other symptoms except a runny nose the week before - no fever, didn't act sick, etc. All croup is is a swelling of the throat due to a virus that causes pressure on the vocal cords and makes the voice have a seal-like quality. DS didn't even have a cough.

That is not all croup is, croup can be caused by 2 things, 1 is more common and minor, the other is highly dangerous. Anytime a wheeze is heard, it should be checked out by a doctor. It could be croup, asthma, etc.
