Constipation (TMI)

I am 2 weeks PP and while I have regular bowel movements (every 2-3 days) per the medical community, it is not nearly close to my norm.  That said I am taking more than the recommended colace and added Metamucil to my daily routine.  However, I am popping hemorrhoids and bleeding rectally (like leaving blood on the back of the toilet seat, not the toilet paper) after movements.

I called my doctor about this since there is so much straining (and crying, cursing, nausea, etc) involved, and they said to stay hydrated and increase fiber intake.  Anyone have any other tricks or something to ease the pain?  Anyone have similar issues?

Am I stuck being this way my entire recovery?

Re: Constipation (TMI)

  • Omg, I've been wanting to post something about this all day, but LO has been cluster feeding and I didn't get a chance to. I'm four weeks pp, and just two days ago started having issues with hemorrhoids out of nowhere.

Severe pain on day one. Couldn't even go on day two. Pain and bleeding. And yes, crying too! I haven't been taking softeners every day since I gave birth, but incidentally, I had been in the days leading up to this episode.

Today has not been a good one! I don't have anything to add, but you're not alone...and of course, I would appreciate any info as well!

  • stool softener at night with metamucil chaser, then metamucil in the morning with a bowl of oatmeal with prunes, lots of water = relief by noon
