usually our 10 wk old DD does a great job about going to sleep on her own, but that wasn't the case 2 nights ago. we let her cry it out and she fell asleep after 10 mins. tonight it's going on 20 mins. is she too young for us to do this? a part of me says yes and another part says no.
Re: too early to let them "cry it out?"

We used the 10 minute rule at that age. After being put down to sleep for the night, we waited 10 minutes before going in. Most of the time DS would be fast asleep long before the 10 minutes was up. If he wasn't, he got a cuddle and a rock and was laid back down for up to 5 minutes. If he didn't go to sleep on his own in that time, we would pick him up and hold and rock him to sleep.
By 4 months he was sleeping 8pm - 5am solid, getting up to eat at 5am and going back to sleep until 8am.
Every kid is different and you will get all kinds of different opinions on this matter. I say trust your gut and do what works for you and your DD.
This girl has enough posts to know that she shouldn't let her newborn CIO.?
I call MUD.....?
Read the original post. Her DD has been a good sleeper until 2 nights ago. She's simply asking for opinions.
I am not convinced it is MUD. I have seen enough of these posts with babies who are way too young to CIO on here to make me think it is a real question. I think too many people get "the book" as a shower gift and truly do not know what a disservice they are doing to their baby by following that method at a young age.
Where is Hippy tonight? She is the bumpie with the final word(s) on CIO.
at that age they are not so much crying it out, as they are giving up. Think of it that way.... would you feel bad if she gave up hoping you would come in and soothe her?
She is too little... Some babies can self soothe earlier than 6 months, but no baby can do it at 10 weeks.
