Do you treat your LO like a big kid?

Sometimes I realize that I give DD ....not "responsibility" but I talk to her like a big girl. For example this morning after making ourselves some scrambled "omelletes" with tomato, onion, and cilantro...I handed her the tomato and onion (each in a ziplock bag) and asked her to put them in the fridge (which I had already opened for her) and she did! And it made me feel...sad! She understands so much these days!

It makes me wonder if any of you moms do similar things with your kiddos....do you ask them to bring their shoes? sit down? bring that or this? Because I do and she always understands.

And do any of you let your LO play with a pen/pencil and paper? Because I do! She LOVES scribbling on notepads (and her legs now).

I just feel like she is growing so fast! She knows so much and understands a lot!

Do you treat your LO like a big kid? What are some examples?

  • I do! She loves it and it's so fun to see what she understands.

She loves to unpack the dishwasher with me, get her shoes, shut the fridge, bring me a diaper, hand me laundry out of the basket, etc.

If I say snack time she runs to the cupboard where I hide her goods...lol.

Outside on the farm she loves to help me feed calves, will stir the milk and pick up pails etc.

It's so great she loves to be busy and is so much more occupied these days!

So glad to hear!! This sounds just like H!!! She is so involved!! It just amazes me how much she understands and learns so quickly at only 1 yr 2 months old!!!

  • It is fun! Makes me giggle.

I also work on it because it's important to me she's helpful, can take care of herself and be well civilized..lol. I'm not pushing it. At this point she does what she does and it doesn't always happen, but at least she's learning and I might as well teach her while it's still fun.

I wish Rubes would like to draw and color. She has no patience for it at all. I'm looking for more in the house winter activities and for upcoming roadtrip. She just has no desire.

I did get her some magnetic "paper dolls" and wikki sticks along with reuseable stickers. Hopefully she takes an interest in that or I'm in trouble!

Even at ECFE play group all the girls run to color and do art and she's off by the blocks. Awesome..but still..draw dammit. :)

  • Yes! Like several people have already mentioned, it's crazy to see how much these little people understand. Some examples from today:

    1. I told her we were going to go to Glammy's house, but she needed to get her socks. She went and got them and brought them to me.

    2. I asked her if she wanted a snack, and she said yes. I told her that she needed to sit down and I would give it to her, so she sat down.

    3. She pulled a piece of paper off the couch, and I needed it. I asked her to hand it to me, and she did.

  • If DS has something I will ask him to "see it" and he will bring it to me.

He has also gotten me his lotion and diaper for me.  They have to be in plain sight and its not all the time, but he has.  Thats pretty much the extent of it.

  • No, and I am kind of sad that I can't like everyone else! Lena doesn't walk, and you can only do so much while crawling :(
  • How adorable! Sometimes I feel weird telling her to sit down (I feel like I'm talking to a dog lol) I love how they are developing into little people :)

Which reminds me...I ordered some fridge its..and they came individually wrapped...she brought two to the kitchen and I signed more and she brought more and laid them in the same cupboard. I seriously love how well she understands! I am always so impressed! haha!!

  • I do! I have him clean up his toys at night, and I'm working on putting one toy back before he takes out a second.

He just got a haircut today, and he looks like such a kid now instead of a baby! It's crazy how big he's getting!

  • He helps with the dishes too. He takes out all the silverware (I now handwash my knives because it's his favorite "chore") and holds it for me while I put it away, and when all the dishes are loaded, he pushes in the rack and closed the dishwasher!
  • I try to let him choose stuff like breakfast foods and pajamas, shirts etc. He will always bring me his sippy cup when he wants it refilled and sometimes will point to what he wants in the fridge. I can tell him to do some things like go get his blanky before bed and say night night to the dog (he goes and hugs her and pats her head and it's adorable as hell). He'll go grab my shoes and lay them on top of my feet if he wants to go for a walk (I think he learned this from the dog too). I like that he's becoming more of his own person now but like you said, it makes me sad that he's not my little baby anymore and he's turning into a big boy.

With a few things, I do! She feeds herself for the most part and she helps me put her toys away. She also likes helping me unload the dryer :
    H LOVES to do laundry! ;
