2nd Trimester

Diastasis Recti

Hey Ladies, I'm a FTM and am quite petite. I just discovered I have diastasis recti. Does anyone else have experience with this condition? I have a few exercises to help with this from Be-Fit-Mom.com, but I was wondering if anyone else had other things they did to help? Thanks in advance!!  (sorry to all the March 2013 moms who have already read this post, I'm re-posting here, as there may be more ladies who can provide some input :)

Re: Diastasis Recti

  • I have this as a result of my first pregnancy.  I didn't have it before I was pregnant with DS, but afterwards I had a 1-1.5 inch gap between my abdominal muscles.  My OB is aware of it but has never given me anything to do about it while I am pregnant.  I have been trying to pay attention more to my posture this time around, and keeping my abs from just "letting go" like I did last time.

I didn't do any special exercises between pregnancies or anything, I just kind of let it be, but I'm hoping that this time I will have the motivation to try to do something about it after this pregnancy because I don't plan to have any more children after this.

I have not had any complications during this pregnancy, and at this point my belly is so big that you can't even feel that I have a diastasis anymore, my belly is just round and hard like last time.

  • I'm pretty sure I had this when I was pregnant with DD. My stomach would come to a point whenever I shifted to get up. I could feel a gap for the first month or two after birth, but I haven't felt it since. I never did any exercises to help correct it before this pregnancy. I'm a little nervous that the damage will be more severe this time around.
