Pregnant after a Loss

Baby STILL transverse, c/s date set

We had our regular OB appointment yesterday morning.  I was really hoping that baby had turned head down, but s/he's still in the same position as s/he's been for the past month (since we started checking), transverse, head on my right side.  Then my doctor said, So the c-section date is November 21.  We were like, What??  We're setting a date already?  He assured me it's simply for scheduling purposes and that there is still plenty of time for baby to turn, but it really freaked me out.  First, because we're close enough to be setting a day for our baby to be born!!!  Gaahh!!  And second, because I really want to avoid a c/s.  Logically I know that whatever gets LO out safe and healthy is perfectly okay, but I feel like my body has failed me AGAIN.  I couldn't carry a baby without help, and now I can't deliver my baby without help.  I know I shouldn't, but I feel like a failure.  Again.

I'm trying to be positive and proactive, I've been seeing a chiropractor throughout my pregnancy who is now focusing on the Webster technique.  I'm also doing a few moves off of spinningbabies.com, yoga, massage and will likely try accupuncture.  I kind of wonder if LO is just super comfortable where s/he is, whether it be because of where the cord is or some issue with my hips/pelvis, and if that's just where s/he's going to stay.  Sigh.  I just need to get my head around it all.  It's hard to explain this to other people, they just see the end result and don't really get why I'm upset.  I think it might be a PgAL thing?

  • I know it is hard not to, but you have no reason to feel like a failure.  Sometimes babies just don't get into the proper position and that is completely out of your control.  Hopefully LO turns soon so you do not have to have a c-section.

  • Hope LO turns for you soon! You have plenty of time left. My cousins baby flipped a couple days before her scheduled c/s.

  • I'm bumping mobily, so I can't see your ticker, but if they're scheduling late November c/s that means you have at least 7 to 8 weeks left? Your baby has PLENTY of time to turn. GL, TPs for a headdown, no c/s baby!
  • Thanks for all of your kind words, ladies.  I don't want to go with a version (where the doctor tries to turn the baby) as I understand that they are risky and only about 52% effective.  My OB doesn't do them for these reasons either.  I'm slowly getting my head around a c/s, and will hope that babe turns in the meantime.  I so appreciate having this board for support!

  • Don't beat yourself up over this. My DD was transverse at 25 weeks and eventually when breech a few weeks later. At that point my OB scheduled the c/s. I was a little bummed but she said sometimes babies can flip at the last minute and we could cancel the c/s. My DD never flipped. I did yoga and exercises my OB recommended for flipping but she never did. She was suctioned in my pelvis and was not going to move. Sometimes these things are completely out of our control. Its not your fault, its just where your baby wants to be right now.
  • If it makes you feel any better Charlie was in a breech position until about 32ish weeks and then was oblique until 34ish weeks. She's now head down station 0. You're still early enough your LO could turn any time. Try not to stress too much.
