any other May mommies already considered High Risk?

I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) - basically extreme vomiting & nausea in pregnancy. I've been on modified bed-rest since the diagnoses & had a PICC line placed with daily IV fluids & meds. I have home health coming weekly to check my weight, ketones & make sure my line is clear of infection.

i had moderate HG with my first pregnancy, but this is 1987423987 times worse. I've already lost 7lbs & even though i'm on fluids, i'm still dehydrated 99% of the time & throw up as much as 15-20 times on a bad day.

until like 19 weeks...then i had a few weeks that were "normal"...but i was sick almost the whole 3rd trimester too. Tongue Tied

I'm high-risk because of non-pregnancy related stuff. Right now it basically just means that I'm even more tired than the usual 1st tri lady, I take a bunch of medicine, and I have to go to the ER if I puke even once (fingers crossed). I'm so sorry you are going through this. I have had a couple of times when I wasn't pregnant that I was in a similar situation to what you describe. It sucks. I hope that you get to feeling MUCH better soon. And that you find an awesome TV show to watch that has approximately 7 seasons.

OMgosh! I had no idea m/s could ever be so bad. I'm so sorry you are going through this. Is this likely to get better after the first trimester? I certainly hope so.

I actually came in here to make a High Risk post as well. I just had a follow up appointment with my OB after spending last night in the ER due to dehydration. I am not diagnosed with HG and a higher dosage of zofran seems to be doing the trick. BUT at this appointment today learned that I am High Risk due to a clotting disorder called Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS).

is the APS caused by pregnancy? or did you only find out about it because you are pregnant?

I actually found out about it a few years ago when my identical twin sister had deep vein thrombosis (dvt) and a pulmonary embolism (pe). Because we are identical I had to be worked up. They found we both have APS. The only difference is that I've never had a clotting incident. Even so,with APS the risk of miscarriage, preterm labor, premature birth, preeclampsia and low platelet count are significantly higher. There was some controversy about whether or not I am High Risk because I haven't had a blood clot and today they deemed that I am indeed high risk and need to be under the care of an OB and not a Midwife.

I'm considered high-risk due to carrying triplets. I have to see a MFM Dr. next week and have a trillion tests done on me. My All Day Sickness has been really bad but thankfully very little actual vomiting involved. I have to play a mind game with myself to get myself to eat.

I'm very sorry you have HG. It was my biggest fear when I started getting sick. My Dr. discussed the possibility of it with me due to the extremely fast and abnormal rise of hormones due to carrying so many. Zofran didn't work for me at all and I have to take something else. I really really hope that you start feeling better sooner than your last pregnancy. I think it's great you can have HH come check you and provide support. It's much safer to be home than in the hospital because of all the risk for exposure in a hospital setting.

T&P you start being able to enjoy your pregnancy soon!

I am so sorry! I had HG last time and m/c so I didnt even get a baby out of the deal. I was sooo sick and in the ER twice hooked up to the IV. Ill be praying for you!

Oh, no. That's horrible, I'm so sorry. I'm high risk, but mine mainly is a concern after 20 weeks. I have antikell antibodies and my husband is kell positive, which means every pregnancy I have a 50% chance of my body trying to attack the baby I'm carrying. It a lot of monitoring, my DD2 was kell positive, so we had to get weekly ultrasounds to monitor her and came very close to a PUBs.

I've been thinking about this too. Is there a PgAL check-in? If so, maybe we want to do the high-risk check-in on a different day since there is some overlap between the two groups.

I love this idea! You have all my sympathy. I had HG with my first. PICC line went in at 11 weeks and out at 20 but still threw up multiple times a day until about 27 weeks, then it slowed down to a few times a week until delivery. I also had a vaginal cerclage with my first. So I was on bed rest from week 11 through delivery. It was AWFUL to say the least. Was at the high risk dr every 2 weeks for a cervical length check.

This time I got an abdominal cerclage placed pre-pregnancy so I will hopefully not have to be on bed rest for my cervix. So far the throwing up is only happening about 3-4 times a day and I am managing to keep some food down. I am on B6 & Zofran and I am trying acupuncture this time as well. The goal is to keep working until I deliver!

My OB/GYN is considering my pregnancy high risk as well, and she sent me for a consultation with a doctor at the MFM before I was even considering becoming pregnant. I had a blood clot years ago which may have been related to a birth control pill. I've had a number of blood tests, and as far as I know, there's no specific clotting disorder. However, my GYN said that since hormones increase so much during pregnancy, it puts me at risk for clotting again.

I have an appt. with the MFM doctor on the 3rd, and I'll very likely be put on a blood thinner for the duration of the pregnancy. Sounds like no big deal, but it's apparently a needle that I inject into my stomach every day until delivery.

I am Factor V Leiden Heterozygous -- I am in great shape, have perfect vitals, and no history of blood clots (although my father had a PE at age 62).

I am going to see a MFM doc next week, which I am excited about because I really wanted that extra level of care. I have not yet decided about taking Lovenox. My hematologist told me I have less than a 0.3 percent chance of a clot during pregnancy....and I know there are risks associated with Lovenox, mainly bleeding. So, lots to consider....

I also (as I posted yesterday) am going to be starting progesterone supplements today after testing with a progesterone level of 15.5 at 6w1d pregnant.

I would definitely be up for a weekly check-in!
