Whats your daycares sick kid policy?

Just wondering if your daycare has a sick kid policy or procedure and what that is..

Wondering for both your kid or another kid getting sick during the day (what do they do to notify Mom/Dad, etc)...and regarding contagoiuse illness (notifing all parents, etc)

At what point, if any, is the child required to be picked up and at what point can the child return (drs note, next day, etc)

 Thanks!

  • Luckily, our day care has a pretty good policy. No fevers, no more than 2x diarrhea diapers, and 24 hours on antibiotics after diagnosis. No doctors note necessary.

  • They'll give tylenol if LO has a fever but if it doesn't subside in like an hour, they will call you to pick up. They usually require the child to be out the whole next day, but if it is a fever due to teething, they don't enforce this rule.

Compromise and Balance are key. JH.

  • Do they have a specific limit as to what they consider a fever?  Like, a 99.5 is not really a fever but anything over 101.00 and they have to go home, etc?

Do they call or notify parents if this child isnt feeling well, etc...or if a child has something contagoiuse (like flu, pink eye) in their class?

I'm just trying to get an idea of whats normal vs whats above and beyond...

Basically, ours goes on a scale of warm or burning up. They dont' call me for pick up for fever or diarrhea, but they let DH know when he picks DS up. I've never been notified of another child's illness.

  • Mine also goes by touch...kinda, if that makes sense.  So if he's running a low grade fever, but running (crawling) around, playing, and happy, they don't do anything.

If he's acting tired, cranky, unusual, and they pick him up and he's burning up, they'll take his temp and if he's running a fever they call me to come pick him up.

For us, he has to be fever free for 24 hours.

In his current room, there are only 4 kids, and I none of them has been sick yet.  But when he was in the infant room, there was a sign on the wall that said something like

"In the yellow room we have:

    nut allergy

pink eye (date of last pink eyed child, but no name)"

and I'm assuming any other contagious disease would be put up there too.

  • At our daycare a child will be sent home if they have a fever over 100.5, two incidents of diarrhea or vomiting, suspicious rash, or suspected pink eye. They call parents and expect the child to be picked up within an hour.

Children must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to daycare. If they have pink eye, they have to have eye drops for 24 hours before returning.

If a child in the room has something contagious (like pink eye), they put a notice on the door of the room. It says something like 1 case pink eye 9/27. If its something less common than pink eye, they often will print out information about the contagious disease that includes symptoms to be aware of.

  • Ours is pretty much the same as PP.  If a child has a fever over 100.3, parents are notified and they should be picked up within 1 hour.  I don't think there is anything about diarrhea or vomiting.  The child has to be fever free for 24 hours in order to return or he must have a doctor's note stating the child is not contagious.

If there is something going around, there will be a note on the door saying how many cases of whatever disease there is in that room.
