Discouraged after appt...

I'll be 40 weeks on Sept 29th, and found out at my appt today that I'm 0% dilated. So they can't even perform a sweep. Anyone else have this happen? Outcome?

My midwife gave me a "recipe" to start drinking of cloves,Cinnamon, ginger, and verbena oil.   Sure hope it helps :S

    I know it's discouraging, my due date was yesterday at at my appt on Tuesday I was 70% effaced and still not dilated. Ultimately, progress with dilation is no indicator of when your baby will come. Some women dilate over weeks and some dilate in a few hours. I would keep the faith and just focus on relaxing prior to going into labor. You'll have to let us know if you try that "recipe" and how it worked for you.

    Hang in there.  With my daughter (now 2) I went for my 40 week appointment on Wednesday, and same as you- NO progress whatsoever.  I went into labor the next night at almost midnight and she was born Friday morning.  This time, at my 38 week appointment, same deal.  Appointment was on Thursday, he was born Tuesday.

    Five days past and as of three days ago, no dilation or effacement.

    So yeah, been there.

    At 40 weeks 5 days I was thick high and closed (no signs of progress at all) I went into labour on my own two days later.

    I don't have much encouragement for you, I'm in the opposite boat, I've been dilating slowly over the past month, about 1cm a week.  its driving me crazy! wish I didn't even have cervical checks at this point!

    would love to know what this "recipe" is! I've pretty much tried every trick in the book at this point, wonder if it is similar to the ingredients in "labor cookies" (which I've already tried haha)

    I was only a fingertip at my 40w4d appt and my cervix was posterior so they couldn't do a sweep on me either.  It was very discouraging, so I know how you're feeling.  I have no advice, but you aren't alone!

    40w-0 cm

    41w- 0 cm

    41w2d- 2cm

    I needed an emergency induction and the 2cm was good enough to  skip right to pitocin.

    Try not to be too discouraged. It doesn't mean much at all! You could be dilated for weeks with nothing happening.

    Honestly, this is why I haven't checked yet. Not worth the stress either way IMO.
