just curious, MH is all bent out of shape b/c he went to a new dentist & all his dentists have been telling him to have 2 wisdom teeth removed for years (i think they came through but are somewhat impacted or crooked or something?) and now this one found a cavity in one and was like, you REALLY need to have these removed... and then told him that they would do it in the office and gave him quotes on the cost. He insists that only an oral surgeon should be removing wisdom teeth but I said I was pretty sure that unless it required general anesthesia that general dentists did tooth extractions all the time, including wisdom teeth (as long as they're not full impacted and contained up in the gums?)...
what's the deal? Thanks!

This exactly.
All four of mine were impacted and I had them removed by my dentist in his office with a local anesthetic. It was kind of gross to see/hear, but it wasn't a huge deal.

I had only one of my wisdom teeth out and it was taken out by my regular dentist. It was hurting so badly I didn't even care at that point. It was a little crazy because it wasn't easy for him to get it out. I also almost fainted after the procedure and had to have my mom come pick me up.
So, I personally would go to a specialist given my experience. I am not a dentist, just my opinion
Thanks. I'm on board w/ the oral surgeon plan now . They're not impacted as in up in the gums but I know there is some issue w/ how they came in that all his dentists over the years have recommended removal (I wasn't sure if they were crooked or only part way in if that counted as impacted)...anyway, I don't know why he didnt just have it done in his early 20s like me & everyone else I know LOL. (although maybe they didnt come in yet? hmmm)
Thanks again.
