Everything went pretty smooth up until it was time to push, had what they call a "window" in the epidural where it didn't work. She was right there, so they did an epesiotomy to get her out instead of letting me strech. Now I am so sore, I can hardly get in and out of bed. Been doing tucks and ice, but we only have big ice cube trays at home. Tried the witch hazel on pads then put in the freezer, but those are a little to aggressive on my skin. How do I deal with the swelling/pain?
Re: VBAC was a success, but so sore now.
Dermoplast. It's a numbing spray. They sent it home with me from the hospital but you can buy it at walmart or any drugstore. They also had pads with ice packs inside them (perineal cold pack pads) I don't know if you can get those in a regular store. But you get a regular pad wet and freeze it without the tucks.
And take whatever pain meds they gave you or at least some ibuprofen.
Congrats on a successful VBAC!!
I can't comment on the pain as I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I will gladly take it over the c/s recovery pain!
Congrats on the VBAC! I can relate...my epi stopped working when it was time to push and they used forceps. I could feel everything including when the OB started stitching me up when he thought the epi was still working...OUCH!
I agree with the dermoplast spray! That was awesome. I also used a lot of the frozen pads. Good luck & hopefully recovery goes smoothly!

You could do just frozen pads with water, that might be more gentle. The Dermoplast was good, too. And you can take a good amount of Advil - 3 or 4 at a time is fine.
I did sitz baths (Not sure if it was recommended because I tore or because I had hemorrhoids) nightly, and that helped a lot with the soreness, too. I felt better after the first week and a half or so.
Congrats on the VBAC!
