still bleeding?

How long is it normal to bleed for? I am 2 weeks 6 days post delivery and still bleeding.  At 2 weeks my OB said this is normal.   I had an easy delivery with only a minor tear but I find that I am still having some bleeding, not major bleeding but I am still going through a few pads a day.  Also the bleeding gets worse after I have a BM or do anything more than take care of the baby like go shopping or go for a walk.  Just wondering if anyone else is still bleeding and when I should be worried.

Re: still bleeding?

  • My MW said, "We don't care what comes out of your vagina for four weeks. Do not bring in any clots to ask me if it's normal."

(For the record, I wasn't going to. I haven't even had any clots come out. She's just super sassy and said that she has had Mama's do that before. And even clots up to 4 weeks post-partum don't mean anything.)

And I think if your bleeding increases after you do something that's a sign that that something still might be a bit much for your body. And that happens to me also, btw.

  • I just called my OB with the same question. She said a little bit of a pick up after going out and doing things is normal. Just as long as its not a lot of blood, heavy like within the first few days of birth it was ok, but try to take it easy as much as I can. I also asked about color because mine went from a brighter red to small bits of dark red which is a little mucusy TMI and that is also normal as long as there aren't big clots coming.

  • After my vaginal delivery with DD, I bled off and on for about 4 weeks. It definitely picked up when I did pretty much any physical activity. I would only worry if you are having major cramping or passing large clots.

  • Bled for 6 weeks both times. 12 days this time and still going strong. It really depends on the person.

  • I hemorrhaged during delivery and again 3 weeks later, which resulted in a D&C. You'd think I wouldn't have had much blood left to bleed for long. Wrong. I bled for 5 weeks. It wasn't heavy, but it was there. My OB said it was fine. You definitely have nothing to worry about at this point.

  • I bled for 3 weeks and now, 4 weeks out, am only spotting.  Totally normal unless you pass a clot bigger than a golf ball.

  • You can bleed up to 6 weeks.  I bled the longest with my first (3-4 weeks) but with my second and third babies I stopped bleeding at the 2 week mark.

  • For most women, bleeding is done by 6 weeks. Some bleed for longer.

I'm in my 4th week (1 month today!) and think my bleeding is over just now.
