when the time comes...twin or full size bed??

What size be will you move your child to when the time comes? I know people who bought full size beds for their 3 yr olds and I thought....geez I didnt get a full size be till i moved out of my parents house!!

It seemed like too much to me to give  kid that young such a big bed, what will they aspire to later a king at 16?

Then someone told me it doesnt make sense to buy a twin when you'll buy them a full later on!

Just curious...what are most of you planning to do?

  • I had a twin bed until I moved out of my parent's house at 24.  We bought our DD a twin bed.  Quite frankly, the bedrooms in our house are small, and seeing as we may have 2 kids sharing a room in the future, there just isn't room for a double bed.

  • DD1's room is small, so a full would be much to big. She's getting a twin, possibly a twin bunk bed in case we ever want/need to move the girls in together. We may consider a full bed, or a twin over full bunk bed, for DD2's room down the road. We have family visit often and while we do have a guest room, it would be useful to have another full size bed rather than air mattresses on the family room floor.

  • All 3 of ours share a room. So, size dictates that we must go to a twin. However, they all have (or had in DS's case) convertible cribs... so DS is getting a twin for Christmas, and hopefully by the time the girls need something bigger than a toddler bed we'll be in a bigger place. If the girls room supports 2 full size beds they'll get them... if not, twins or even bunk beds When we separate them DS will get a full.

  • We buy the cribs that go from crib, toddler to full size so my kids will all have full size beds.  I only had a twin growing up and slept in that until I loved out at 22 when DH & I built our house.  We both had twins so we had to buy a queen bed and then all the extra bedrooms only had twin beds in them (which I didn't like but at the same time, didn't want to be spending money on full size beds).  For that reason, I wanted my kids to have full size beds- that way when they do move out they have a full size bed vs. a small twin.  Or if the choose to not take their beds, then my guest rooms have full size beds vs. twins.
  • Our son has a full only because we converted one of the guest rooms to his room so we already had it.  If we had bought a new mattress it would have been a twin.  I actually considered buying him twin, but it seemed like a waste of money when we already had the full.  This way we still have his room as a second guest room when we need it (all of our family lives at least 12 hours away so we often need the extra space).
It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

  • DD went straight from a crib to a full sized bed.  We don't plan on buying her another bed.
  • We gave DS the bed from our old guest room which happened to be a full sized bed. DD has a toddler bed. Our master plan is to get DS a loft bed in another year then put DD's bed underneath it until they want separate rooms.

  • How big are the rooms? Will you eventually be buying them a full?

We have my old twin bed, so that's what DD1 moved to. Then we ended up buying twin over twin loft style bunk beds for her room. DD1 and DD2 will share that room.

We still have my old twin bed frame, so I guess we'll see if this baby is a boy or a girl before we make any decisions.

  • DD will get a twin until she's old enough to get herself a bigger bed. I slept in a twin until my sister moved out after she got married. Then I took her bigger bed. I was in college at that time.

  • We have 1 twin and twin bunkbeds.  Taylor & Dylan share a room and Alex got her own room this summer.  (We did have Dylan alone and A & T shared).

Our convertible cribs turn into full size beds, so that is what they will be getting.

This.  I had a full size bed growing up and the bedrooms in our house will accomodate them so we'll do with full.

  • Kieran will be moving into our guest room when we eventually move him out of his crib.  We already have a queen bed and it's an ikea bed that is low to the ground so he will get that.  He can climb in and out of it now, and he will probably be 3 when we move him, so he shouldn't have any problems at all.

  • at christmas time, we are moving DD into her own room, and we'll be using twin bunk beds.  She will be on the bottom bunk and SD will be on the top bunk when she's at our house.
