I'm a Belly Rubber!

When I first got pregnant, I told DH that I would never be the kind of pregnant lady that rubbed her own belly in public. I used to think it was so silly and what pregnant ladies did to draw attention to the fact that they're pregnant.

But now that baby's moving a lot, I feel the need to respond to every movement by rubbing my belly and comforting him. I noticed myself doing it the other day while waiting in line at Starbucks and was like "what the heck am I doing?!!". I just can't help myself!

Anyone else belly rubbing in public?? :

Yes! I think it's a normal motherly instinct when we feel our LO's move around. I've actually caught myself saying "Hi buddy" in public...ha

I find myself resting my hand on my belly a lot. Not a lot of rubbing yet, but I'm sure I will start that once my bump is a bit bigger and I can feel him more. I agree, when he kicks, it's kind of a natural instinct.

Yep, I enjoy feeling the movement and I guess I almost feel the instinct to comfort baby as well. I tend to sit at my desk at work with one hand on my belly and the other on my computer mouse.

I don't rub my belly but I do put my hand on it when LO kicks. I don't know if it's an instinct or if it's just because it feels better when my hand is there to brace some of the uncomfortable movements...

I most certainly am and public belly rubber!

I'm once who's been waiting to do this ever since I wanted to have a baby! For me it's another way to feel my baby! When his kicks are really strong I can feel them externally and I poke or rub back. No matter if it's at home, work or grocery shopping. This will be only time rubbing my belly is justified! Enjoy these moments!

DH asked if I was OK when we were out at the store yesterday. I said, yah, why? He said, you're holding your belly, I thought you might be uncomfortable. I didn't even realize I was doing it! The baby was kicking away though, so I guess it's just instinct for me.

I'm not really rubbing but I've noticed that when I'm standing talking to patients for a while that I end up resting my hands/arms on my belly....it's just such a convenient shelf now lol!

I used to just hold my hands together sort of intertwined kind of at my low belly but now that my belly is sticking out I can't really do that, so up on top they go. It's not at all deliberate but I've noticed myself doing it more and more the last few days.

I tone down the actual rubbing in public, but I'm definitely a belly toucher wherever I am! At home at night, there's lots of rubbing going on. I exaggerate it for my DH to make him roll his eyes

Wait until the baby is no longer in your belly but you catch yourself rubbing it just because your used to it.

I rub my belly ALOT! it just feels good, and sometimes , i swear once i start rubbing my belly, the baby starts to move around. Plus, it comforts me to rub my belly. When something feels weird or awkward, i just rub away and it makes me feel better

This is what I do, too. Sometimes I feel embarrassed when someone walks by my office and sees me doing this. But I think it is just a natural reaction.

I don't do it as much as I notice other people doing it, but I do touch a little, esp. if I start feeling a little crampy or uncomfortable. I rub all the time at home though lol.

Ugh, I still find this really gross but caught myself doing it the other day when LO was kicking the sh*t out of me! I try to avoid it in public when possible, but every now and then just can't control it when he's really active.

I'm with you on this! Plus, I have ligament pain that acts up when I'm active, so I'm usually rubbing/holding my belly to help with that.

I don't rub, but if he moves around, I touch my belly. And I find it's a good resting spot of my arms too. I honestly never thought anything of it. I do it if people are around or not. I don't need to draw attention to my belly. It's way out there for everyone to see!

I did this all the time with my first- when he turned head down his back was on my right side so I would rub it all the time. Even at 2 yrs old he still likes it when I rub his back to comfort him.

I find I'm not doing it as much with this one, but it's mostly because I'm carrying him much lower than my first.

Same here. I don't necessarily rub my belly, but I definitely touch my belly right away. My hand usually rests wherever Eliana is moving. I too insisted I'd never be a belly toucher in public. I was wrong. Whatever, I'm cool with it.

Before I even found out I was pregnant I would rub my belly, and I would shield it if I was bumping into something with both pregnancies!
That's what kind of gave away this pregnancy to me! Lol
