August 2012 Moms

What are you reading now?

I finished The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman a few weeks ago.  AMAZING read right there, folks.  Then I read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald for The Big Read here in Wichita.  Still trying to figure out what the big stink is about that book.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to read next.  I'm reading Matilda by Rohld Dahl to the kiddos, but I need something for me.

What are you reading now, Auggie mamas?

Re: What are you reading now?

  • I'm reading American Gods by Gaiman for my book club and then I'm going to re-read Scenarios of Power but Richard Wortman.  I need to suck it up and decide whether I'm going to focus on Russian or a 20th century US history.

  • Currently reading 'Mockingjay'. I'd like to read 'Life of Pi' by Yann Martel before the movie comes out next month.

  • The Expats...I have been reading it off and on because instead of reading before bed I have been watching breaking bad in Netflix...it is really good

  • The Light Between Two Oceans....can't remember the author. About a lighthouse keeper and his wife on a remote island off Western Australia. I just finished Atonement. For the second time.

I've been reading less because of Breaking Bad too!  So good!

DH and I were able to finish all the episodes on Netflix in time to see the season finale on AMC a few weeks ago.  And Aaron Paul who plays Pinkman just won an Emmy!

  • I just finished Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. It was weird but good.

  • I love Roald Dahl! I wanted to name DS Charlie for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Have you seen the Fantastic Mr. Fox?

I'm reading The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Murial Spark. She's a fun read especially when one is busy. I read A Far Cry From Kensington when I was planning my wedding. The Finishing School and The Ballad of Peckham Rye are also good.

I seriously need to come out from under the rock I've been living. I didn't know there was a movie. Not that I'll get to go!

I haven't been able to read anything since Leo was born, which is a shame, because I started the second book in the Discovery of Witches series and the first book was fantastic. I also want to read JK Rowlings new book.

Waving from under my rock! JK Rowling has a new book?

  • Forgive me, authors, for not remembering your names. Just finished "The 100 year old man who climbed out a window and disappeared" which was EXCELLENT. before that "War Brides" pretty good but disappointing ending.

Right now reading "Ready Player One"

I'm saving this thread for book recs when I finish my current one.

  • Match Me If You Can by Susan Elizabeth Philips.  It's the only thing I could find for from library to download for my Kindle that didn't have a wait.  It's a romance...writing is just ok but entertaining still. Plus, it's set here in Chicago so I'm enjoying all the local references.  Before that I read Amy, My Daughter, a biography about Amy Winehouse written by her father.  Soo sad but I found it to be a very compelling read despite knowing the ending, obviously.  I'm on a break from any "real literature" due to being sleep deprived:)

  • I read....the bump. And research for cloth diapers. I dont feel like I ever have time to read. I tried to read 50 shades when all the hype came about but I'd get through a page and I'd have to go do something else.

  • I just read a memoir called 'Let's Pretend This Never Happened' by Jenny Lawson, a popular blogger.  It was hilarious - I laughed out loud a lot while reading it.  Most of the girls in my book club loved it.

  • Wow, all these real books make me feel a little lame. I've been reading "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" And not just to the baby. I think my years of teaching preschool have rendered "adult books" foreign. DH and I went out to dinner and to Barnes&Noble the other night. I didn't find a single book I really wanted...until we got to the children's section.
  • I've been reading Little Women on my iPhone and I just started Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks. I finally finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. It wasn't my favorite but it was interesting.

  • I just finished "Certain Girls" by Jennifer Weiner.  I need something new now--thanks for all of the suggestions, Ladies!
  • The Wonder Weeks.  Love it so far, and WISH I had known about it when DD and DS1 were both this little!

I'm lame.  I'm rereading 50 shades.  I want to read the new Richard Castle book (I love Castle on ABC and the books are awesome).  I enjoy fluff books, pretty much anything I can turn my brain off while reading is for me.

I just downloaded the second book....I'm beyond lame.
