We have a local BBBS (Big Brother Big Sister) organization and I am contemplating becoming a Big Sister. It is commitment of once a week to mentor a child in the community. Would you personally see it as reward - or adding insult to injury? The decision is mine to make, but I would like to hear your thoughts. Hugs and love ladies!

I was a Big Sister in college. It was super hard then because I didn't have a car. My girl was quite a bit older started when she was 9 give or take a year. She actually asked me to bring her a sandwich after I brought her a cookie one day because she really wasn't getting enough nutrious food. Poor thing. Wish I was still able to keep in touch with her!

I have a friend who started as a BB and he absolutely loves it.
I have never done it, so I can't say what it is like exactly, but as a teacher, I think helping and mentoring young people is totally different from parenting (obviously). Therefore, to me, it is really rewarding and fulfilling, but doesn't really bring up bad feelings about IF. That said, it really doesn't fill the void, either.
I think it might be a really great idea, but everyone is different!
