We've been invited to our first birthday party for someone at preschool. It is a girl who will be turning 3. That is literally all I know about her - it is our first year at this school, and we are less than a month in. I do not know any of the other parents, and when I pick DS up from extended care, he is one of a handful there (DH drops off), so I have no way of knowing what is "normal" with this group.
How much do you normally spend for this type of gift? Do you have a "go-to" gift that you stick with, or do you change it up? There are only 9 kids in his class, so I don't expect to be overwhelmed by party invitations, but I still don't want to spend more than maybe $20. Any suggestions, or things your kids like?
Re: 3 y.o. girl b-day presents?
My almost 3 year old DD is very into princess stuff. We were at Target yesterday and they had a cute little Disney princess tea party set for like $12.
She also really likes her dress up set (purse, jewelry, and high heels) and this cash register that was a hand-me-down.
My neice turned 3 just before my DD's birthday, and we got her a Dora DVD (the fantastic gymnastics one because she is very into gymnastics right now) and some various art supplies. I probably spent around 35-40 on all of that, but if you wanted to do just a dvd, or just art supplies, you could definitely stay under $20.
totally hijacking your Cinderella pic :-) LOVE IT
I'm not so into princess stuff for my girls. Some things my 3yo loves are the Fisher Price dr kit, anything Angelina Ballerina (lots of stuff on Amazon), Magnadoodle or Aquadoodle, Doodle Bear and they have Doodle Bear Pets for $10. I think a Doodle Bear pet would be a great gift for a kid you may barely know. It's inexpensive and kids love these things. I linked the cat, but there's also a puppy and a bunny rabbit.
Also, paint with water books, or an easy craft kit. The dress-up suggestion is great - my kids love dress-up. I'm giving my 2yo this beauty kit for her b-day and I expect my 3yo will love it as well.
ETA: If you have bounce houses in your area, my kids LOVE going to the bounce. You could do a gift certificate. In my area, a gift certificate for $15 would get two admissions.
