Registry Grand Total...
Just wondering - what does your registry add up to? I hope this doesn't sound grabby but I just want to make sure I am registering for enough things with a good price range since I will be having 2 showers with probably quite a few guests (I am guessing 50-75 people based on previous family showers)...
I added up my grand total of my registry (I am not really registering for clothes or anything bc I'd rather do second hand and get more things that I need) and it came to about $2,500 - - for 50 people thats about $50 each per gift. I don't expect everyone to spend $50 but I know some people will want to spend more... Do I need to add more to my list?
I've been adding and deleting and changing (and will continue to do so until it's shower time (3 months away yet LOL) But I am bored and this makes me feel more prepared...

We have about $1500 to spend on baby, my parents have already advised they will be giving us $500 toward whatever we need (furniture/registry items/etc). And some of the things on the registry are "nice-to-haves" not needs. Trust me, I'm all about being able to support my own child - we are not dependent on the shower - I just feel blessed to have such a great family and friend base.
I know people don't always go off of the registry - I am a hand-made-gift kind of person, but our famiily showers have all tended to be fairly registry based in the past (so I am going off of some experience - not just expectation).
But I also recently went to a wedding and the only things left on the registry 2 wks before the wedding was hand towels, a shoe rack, and $200 champagne flutes... =( Just wondering what registry totals were looking like - I dont want to be way off whack for the norm.
Register first for what you'll need, second for what you'd like, and third for refills, larger sizes, and items that you won't need till later.
I don't think that the price of things should be your main focus. Register for items that are in a price range that you'd pay.

I am just trying to make sure that I am prepared and able to purchase the things that we do not receive that we do need... so I was wondering what it would cost if I had to buy it all on my own...

I think it's more important to make sure there is a wide variety of price points on your registry. When I made my registries on Target (for wedding and baby shower) it said you have x amount of items under $10, under $20, etc...... what really turns me off (and I've seen this recently on a bridal registry, ugh) is that there is pretty much nothing under $40... and most of it over $100. I don't know why it's necessary to register for $60+ glasses each when you don't entertain... but that's a different vent entirely...
Anyways, off of my tangent, it seems like you have a good feel for things. I wouldn't worry about the exact amount it all adds up to... just focus on what you need and include the really small items, too! If you have someone with a small budget, they can buy a bunch of small gifts together for a basket or something (eg- baby bath grab-bag). GL!
Glad this came up - guests will *really* appreciate it if you keep your registry updated. Check your registry weekly after the invitations go out, and each time make sure there are at least a few choices in $20 and under, $50 and under, etc, up until the day before the shower. If not, add some things in each price range whether you want them or not; you can always exchange a group of unwanted items for one unfulfilled big-ticket item.
No advice on a dollar amount, though, since the norm depends on the average financial resources of guests. I can imagine numbers from $10,000 (think sterling silver baby cups, gold baby bangles, orbit strollers, cashmere baby nightgowns), to less than $1,000, so I wouldn't worry about your number. (Even if it's all Need-to-Have stuff, I'm betting some it could be borrowed, bought used, or handed down. An incomplete registry doesn't necessarily equal "you must spend X dollars".)

I can see worrying about prices. There should be a range for everyone to chose from on the registry.
Between my registries at Target and BRU, I received 16 items off my registries. Mostly, people bought me clothes. I have so much clothing with no gift receipts to return the items. There is no way my daughter will wear all those dresses in 0-3 months. I got lots of diapers and 8 bottle brushes. My husband and I have bought most of the registry stuff ourselves.
Wow I never even looked at that with our registry, or figured the $$ per guest ratio. I just followed the guideline that it gave us (x amount of items should be $x-$x, etc.).
I totally remember the boredom leading to obsessive registry planning lol I started a registry at around 9-10wks and worked out every little detail until up to my shower!!
